DESCRIPTION:VRVS: NEPTUNE\n\nThe LHC Computing Grid (LCG) Project recently
completed the development of a high level architectural blueprint for the
common physics applications software to be developed by the LCG. The purp
ose of the LCG's Applications Area is to exploit the substantial potential
among the four LHC experiments for the development and use of common appl
ication software. Any piece of common software developed in the LCG must c
onform to a coherent overall architectural vision\; make consistent use of
an identified set of core tools\, libraries and services\; integrate and
inter-operate well with other LCG software and experiment software\; and f
unction in the distributed environment of the LCG. The blueprint establish
es architectural guidance for LCG software projects to ensure that these c
riteria are met. The blueprint is established in terms of a set of require
ments\, suggested approaches and guidelines grounded in modern C++ program
ming paradigms\, a survey of the software domains\, and recommendations to
the SC2\, the overseeing requirements body through which the experiments
determine the LCG program and which commissioned the blueprint. An importa
nt architectural issue is the relationship between the LCG software and RO
OT. The blueprint proposes a user/provider relationship that all experimen
ts and the ROOT team expect to yield a productive working relationship. Th
e blueprint was developed by a group representing the experiments and othe
r key stakeholders which met between June and October 2002. This talk will
present the blueprint to the LHC.\n\nhttp://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisp

DESCRIPTION:An OGSA/GT3 evaluation group has been active at CERN since GT3
was available in early beta version (summer 2003). This activity Has focu
ssed on the evaluation of the technology as promised by the OGSA/OGSI para
digm and on GT3 in particular. The goal was to study this new technology a
nd its implications with the objective to provide useful input for the lar
ge grid initiatives active in the LHC Computing Grid (LCG) project. A part
icular effort has been devoted to investigate performance and deployment i
ssues bearing in mind the LCG requirements\, in particular scalability and
robustness. In this seminar the groups activity and main results are summ
 arised.\n\nhttp://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=a035465
