DESCRIPTION:Many repositories hold data not only of interest to the produc
ers of the data\, but also to collaborators and fellow researchers\, easie
r access to these data and to data holding related data-sets would enhance
research\, potentially open up new areas of research.\n\nThe aim of this
workshop through discussion of user scenarios/wishlists is to understand (
among other things):\n\n1) What subset of the repository needs to be inter
operable (are these data-sets static i.e. not updated\, or dynamic i.e. co
nstantly updated).\n\n2) Is interoperability restricted within the same co
llaboration\, or open to a much wider audience. If open to a wider audienc
e\, is the access total or restricted.\n\n3) What information is needed to
ensure data-sets are interoperable (i.e. classes of metadata needed\, ado
ption of standards).\n\n4) What additional procedures and information is n
eeded to ensure the data-sets remain interoperable in the long-term.\n\nTh
is workshop is co-sponsored by the Digital Repositories in e-Science Netwo

DESCRIPTION:Since a long time the Drell-Yan (DY) process is considered to
be a powerful \ntool to study hadron structure. In the past\, several expe
riments were successfully \ncarried out using unpolarised beams and target
 s. Nowadays\, taking into account \nthe much advanced understanding of the
spin structure of the nucleon\, we are \ndiscussing a new generation of D
Y measurements using polarised beams and/or \ntargets.\n\nThe COMPASS coll
aboration is currently preparing a proposal for future studies of \nnucleo
n structure beyond 2011. One of the main aims is a first measurement of \n
transverse-momentum-dependent parton distributions (TMDs) using the Drell-
Yan \nprocess on a transversely polarised proton target hit by a pion beam
. Among \nthe distributions to be studied are Sivers\, Boer-Mulders and pr
etzelosity TMDs \nas well as transversely polarised quark distributions.\n
\nThe workshop will review ongoing theoretical and experimental efforts re
lated \nto the Drell-Yan process. Detailed presentations and discussions o
f the theoretical \naspects will be complemented by descriptions of planne

DESCRIPTION:The Workshop on Topologies for Early LHC Searches is an outgro
wth of the "Characterization of New Physics at the LHC" meeting held on Ju
 ne 4th\, 2010 at CERN.\n\nThis joint ATLAS\, CMS\, and Theory meeting was
dedicated to exploring the issues and tools necessary for performing effec
tive searches and characterizing signals of new physics. One outcome of th
e June LHC workshop at CERN was a request to the theory community to help
develop a list of topologies representative of new physics that could appe
ar at the LHC. This list will be used to ensure that searches explore all
relevant phase space\, and to facilitate more effective communication of r
esults from the LHC. The key challenges are identifying a representative c
ollection of topologies and optimally parametrizing their phase space. The
LHC experiments intend to use this list and parametrization to maximize t
he utility of each measurement and enhance the lasting value to the physic
s community.\n\nThe aim of this workshop is to advance the development of
such a list\, and build consensus among particle theorists. The workshop w
ill be divided into working groups\, organized around different search sig
natures (e.g. hadronic jets+MET\, same-sign dilepton). Each group will be
tasked with identifying important topologies that could be observed in tha
t signature\, parametrizing their phase space and specifying relevant disc
riminating variables. These working groups will ultimately compile their f
indings in a draft document that will be presented at the November 2010 CE
RN meeting on Characterization of New Physics.\n\nThe meeting (except for
the working groups) will be broadcast on EVO. The title is "Workshop on T
opologies for Early LHC Searches"\, the password is "simplified".\n\nhttp:

time projection chamber technology\, combining next-generation searches fo
r proton decay and neutrino physics with natural and artificial sources. T
he workshop will include a visit to Pyhäsalmi – the deepest mine in Eur
ope and one of the sites considered by the LAGUNA design study. With dista
nces of 2300 km from CERN and approximately 7000 km from both KEK/JPARC an
d FNAL\, the Pyhäsalmi site offers a potential optimal location for long
baseline neutrino oscillation studies. The workshop aims at fostering a co

lithic pixel sensors\, namely CMOS Pixel Sensors.\nThe workshop will addre
ss topics of sensor R&D and sensor integration\, namely the design of ultr
 a-light ladders\, cooling\, related DAQ and FEE. Moreover\, questions of r
adiation tolerance and device simulation may be discussed.\nOne session co
 ncludes the EU-FP7 HadronPhysics2 research activity "Ultra-light silicon t
racking and vertex detection systems" (http://hadronphysics2.eu\, http://u
lisi-wiki.gsi.de).\nThe workshop should serve to exchange experiences and
to search for synergies between the different vertex detector projects as
carried out for example at CBM and STAR. It will take place at the monaste
ry at the Mont Sainte-Odile close to Strasbourg / France.Organising commit

DESCRIPTION:\n	Cabled observatories provide marine scientists with a large
number of opportunities  previously completely unavailable. In this work
shop\, taking place in NIKHEF\, Amsterdam (the Netherlands) on the 24th an
 d 25th of May 2012\, marine scientists (geoscientists\, biologists\, ocean
ographers\, etc) and astroparticle physicists will jointly discuss current
and future research options using deep ocean cabled observatories\, the f
uture of ocean research.\n	Some of the current cabled observatories were c
onstructed specifically for ocean research. Others\, such as the three pil
ot neutrino detectors - ANTARES\, NEMO and NESTOR - in the Mediterranean d
eep sea\, have been built by astroparticle physicists in order to search f
or cosmic neutrinos.\n	In both cases\, these observatories have led to maj
or scientific breakthroughs in their respective fields\, of which a large
number is summarised in a recent report produced by ASPERA entitled “Fro
m the Geosphere to the Cosmos”.\n	Just before the start of construction
of the first phase of KM3NeT\, the cubic-kilometre sized neutrino detector
in the Mediterranean sea (an ESFRI infrastructure)\, ASPERA considered it
vital to open the floor for extensive discussions amongst scientists from
different disciplines\, all working around deep sea cabled observatories.
The first day of the workshop will be dedicated to current research that u
ses the cabled detectors in the Mediterranean\, but also to the global per
spective\, to research carried out in cabled observatories in Canada and t
he United States. The second day is dedicated to the future. What scientif
ic questions could be answered thanks to collaborations around cabled obse
rvatories in the Mediterranean and beyond? \n	For more information please

is free to attend but registration is necessary)Venue\, Social program and
accommodation\n	You can download a PDF of invitation that can be circulat

DESCRIPTION:CERN personnel has to be ready to react to any event that resu
lts or that has the potential to harm an objective of the Organization (ad
verse event). \nThe capacity to share the relevant information among the d
ifferent services is key. \nThis workshop wants to create a common underst
anding on the information requirements and the tools that are presently av
ailable to share this information by the different services that have to r
eact to the adverse events.\nThe morning session will be oriented to prese
nt which information is required to handle correctly an adverse event and
which information is generated by each service. The last part of the morni
ng will be an open discussion to consolidate a map of where the informatio
n is generated and to whom it shall be addressed. This map will give a pic
ture of where improvements are required.\nThe afternoon session will be or
iented to a series of presentations on the tools that the different servic
es use today to receive and distribute the information. This will provide
everyone a clear vision of the tools available and how this could help the
m to obtain the information that they require. The session will conclude w
ith an open discussion on what will be required to fulfil the improvements
  identified in the morning.\n\nhttp://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?

DESCRIPTION:\n	This is the 4th workshop of the kind\, previous workshops w
 ere a GSI (2010) and CERN (2011) and Frankfurt (2012). Generally\, these w
orkshops are focused on event reconstruction and analysis in the High Leve
l Trigger of modern experiments\, especially those built for heavy-ion int
eractions by adapting the software to modern many-core CPU/GPU computer ar
chitectures.\n	Recent focii included\n	(a) the development of a core commo
n package and common libraries and discussing a shared approach and strate
gy for track finding\, event reconstruction\, vertex finding whether prima
ry or secondary as well as sharing ideas on novel approach to face the man
 y-core CPU/GPU era\n	(b) forming a core project team gravitating around th
e use of the implementation and use of the Cellular Automata (CA) tracking
in High Level Trigger (HLT) and offline reconstruction\, discussing use a
nd results from the KFParticles packages (vertex finding) as two possible
common approaches\n	(c) promoting the use of vectorization via a common fl
exible and versatile interface helping to ease explicit vectorization of C
++ code (Vector Class / Vc)\n	Acknowledgments\n	The workshop is supported

SUMMARY:The Phase Diagram of Strongly Interacting Matter

DESCRIPTION:QCD predicts that strongly interacting matter\, under extreme
conditions of density and temperature\, undergoes a phase transition from
hadronic matter to a plasma of deconfined quarks and gluons (QGP). This is
also expected to have been the state of the Early Universe a microsecond
after the Big Bang. The study of the phase diagram of strongly interacting
matter is a new approach to investigate QCD at its natural scale and to a
ddress the fundamental question of confinement and chiral-symmetry breakin
 g. A fundamental description of this phase diagram within QCD remains a ch
allenge. Theoretical approaches\, including lattice gauge theory and strin
g-theory inspired strongly coupled theories such as AdS/CFT\, are currentl
y used. Nevertheless experimental characterization is essential to make pr
ogress and this can only be done in the laboratory by colliding heavy-ions
at ultra-relativistic energies.\nIt is a particularly exciting time in th
is field. The heavy-ion programme at the LHC has recently commenced\, coll
iding Pb nuclei at the highest possible energies to make the hottest and l
ongest-lived QGP ever created in the laboratory. Data has been taken durin
g two dedicated periods in 2010 and 2011 with the ALICE\, ATLAS and CMS de
tectors\, giving many new results. It is therefore opportune to review the
status of this field and also its future perspectives\, particularly with
respect to the planned upgrades of the LHC detectors.\n\nhttp://indico.ce

DESCRIPTION:The systems of neutral K and B mesons show various CP-symmetry
breaking effects. Since the discovery of CP violation\, experiments have
studied the question if these effects are also T- or/and CPT-symmetry brea
king\; quantum mechanics does not forbid CPT violation. T violation has be
en claimed in many analyses of experimental data between 1970 and 2012\, a
nd no violation of CPT symmetry has been established. Since some cases hav
e been discussed where an apparent T violation can be faked by final-state
interactions or even by CPT violation\, the workshop will critically revi
ew the most sensitive experiments\, with participation from theory and fro
m experiments (CPLEAR\, KLOE\, BABAR). The main discussion points: How sen
sitive are the CPT tests at present and what progress can we expect from e
 xperiments in the near future?\n\nhttp://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.

apidly used to characterize the Higgs sector and develop new measurements
to refine our understanding of the mechanism of electroweak symmetry break

DESCRIPTION:The non-Imaging Cherenkov air shower measurement technique hol
ds great promise in furthering our understanding the Knee-to-Ankle region
of the cosmic ray spectrum.  In particular\, this technique offers a uniq
ue way to determine the evolution of the cosmic ray nuclear composition\,
and an example is given by the recent spectrum results of the Tunka Collab
oration. With this in mind\, we are organizing a workshop\, to be held at
the University of Utah\, to bring together the various practitioners of th
is cosmic ray measurement technique to share simulations\, analyses\, dete
ctor designs\, and past experimental results amongst the community. The wo
rkshop will also be in support of our effort\, NICHE\, to extend the reach
of the TA/TALE detector systems down to the Knee. We anticipate that the
workshop will result in a white paper on the scientific importance of thes
e high-energy cosmic ray measurements and on using the Cherenkov technique
to accomplish them.  Our goal is to have contributions from members of t
he previous generation of experiments such as BLANCA and AIROBICC\; from m
 embers of KASCADE-GRANDE which recently completed data-taking operations\;
from members of Tunka\, which is current operating\; and from NICHE\, the
planned Non-Imaging CHErenkov array installation as an extension of TA/TA
