  reviews have been performed in the past and these reviews focused primari
 ly on the analogue parts of the system design. Therefore the CSL review wi
 ll focus more on the digital parts and particularly on the programmable pa
 rts of this system. The essential and foremost question that will drive th
 e CSL technical review is:\n“Are the digital and programmable parts of t
 he BLM system going to perform as they are intended to in the context of t
 he BLM system?”\n \n    This review will seek to:\n		assess the adeq
 uacy of the overall BLM system design with a focus on the programmable par
 ts\n	\n		identify possible weaknessesin the programmable parts of the miss
 ion-critical BLM\n	\n		suggest activities that could increase the level of
  confidence that the programmable parts of BLM system performs as intended
 \n	\n		suggest potential improvementsof the BLM\n	\n		provide a general co
 mparison of the BLM with approaches in industrial systems.\n    The sc
 ope of this review is also limited to a consideration of:\n		Potential sou
 rces of unsafety within the BLM\, where the detection of an amount of part
 icle losses that has the potential to quench the magnet is not relayed to 
 the Beam Interlock System\, resulting in a ‘missed generation of beam du
 mp trigger’ and potentially machine damage.\n	\n		Potential sources of u
 navailability\, where failure of the BLM leads to a request to the Beam In
 terlock System to dump the beam\, resulting in a ‘false dump trigger’a

DESCRIPTION:Abstract\n	In a typical digital architecture for programmable 
 hardware (e.g. FPGAs) functional modules are specifically build with respe
 ct to their surrounding environment. This often times includes a very spec
 ific timing behaviour and compliance to multiple different input and outpu
 t ports. Furthermore their use is typically limited to that particular des
 ign.\n	 \n\n	To circumvent these kinds of problems a fundamental architec
 ture has been developed called Common Modular Interconnect (CMI). The gene
 ral assumption given by this architecture is\, that any system can be divi
 ded into independent modules\, that are connected among themselves with a 
 common interconnect. This interconnect implements a certain protocol (hand
 shaking) between a single transmitter module and one or more receiver modu
 les. This general model leads eventually to faster development cycles and 
 it is in compliance with multiple quality characteristics seek in hardware

  POLAMCO Ltd. is being organised by BI and EL.\nThe connector proposed is 
 a new custom made development to fit the CKB50 cable and is planned to be 
 used first in the consolidation of the BLM systems on CERN Injectors.\n \
