milar that can take on the work of preparing\, arranging and summarizing
workshops of the type above for various topics \n- Evangelos and George: M
ake proposal for Gas-Detectors/MSGPs and Optolinks following the example o
f the SiPM workshop\n- All: Consider other topics\, for example silicon de
 tectors \n\nKick-off meeting 16-17.2 - the WP4 meeting is 17.2 at 14-16:\n

DESCRIPTION:At the recent meeting of the AIDA Steering Committee of May 31
st\, during the review of WP4 activities\, we addressed the need of identi
fying technology topics that would deserve to be addressed in academia-in
dustry matching events along the lines of the Si-PM event that was organis
ed by HEPTech last February (HEPTech: the Technology transfer network of i
nstitutions active in particle\, astro-particle and nuclear physics).\nSiP
 M event link: (https://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=117424).
\n\nFirst discussions with HEPTech and some of you have indicated that Pos
ition Sensitive Silicon Detectors could be a good candidate for a technolo
gy theme. This is clearly a theme of importance for our community for whic
h industrial maturity of the technology is confirmed. 3-D could be address
ed in a later stage when industry has reached some maturity.\nGiven the wi
de spectrum of technologies and applications related to this theme\, one s
hould probably envisage 2 or 3 academia-industry matching events to ensure
that the topic is addressed properly.\n\nPlease note that this will also
be the opportunity for you to propose other technology themes such as opto
 links.\n\nhttp://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=143984

DESCRIPTION:While basic research in physics drives innovation\, it is equa
lly true that applied science fuels basic research. The constant interplay
between the two drives progress forward. Once particle physicists have de
veloped a technology that suits their needs\, they perform their research.
They do not carry R&D through to the market. On the other hand\, without
applied research\, particle physicists would not have accessed the technol
ogy they need. Advances in particle physics are adopted and developed by i
ndustry\, furthering the technological baseline for the next generation of
scientists and engineers. Detector R&D in particle physics is a very coll
aborative activity involving various applied science and industry players
at all phases of detector development projects. The choice of a particular
technology will strongly depend on the cost-effective manufacturing capab
ility and capacity of industry and on possible solutions developed by appl
ied science labs in collaboration with industry to overcome eventual short
comings limiting the current prospect of using this technology in a detect
or. It is therefore essential for the PP community to have access to softw
are tools that will help them identify key technology players and spot and
trace collaborations between industry and academia throughout the complet
e detector development cycle. AIDA work package on relations (WP4) with in
dustry proposes to organise a workshop to collect the needs of the PP comm
unity with a view to establishing an interdisciplinary project that aims t
o develop a novel service to identify key technology players and spot and
trace collaborations between Industry and Academia. A blog presenting the
findings related to some of the important technologies for particle physic
 s is available for comments (http://collspotting.web.cern.ch).Objective: T
o capture the users’ needs with a view to developing a free-access servi
ce for the PP community and to open the service to other customers (at cos
 t).Targeted audience:\n• AIDA WP3\, WP9 members\n• Detector physicists
to ensure that all detector technology domains are covered\n• TT Office
s from PP labs\n• PP-IT labs to ensure access and support to the service
\n• ICT Universities with expertise in analytics and graphics for softwa
re developmentsOutput:  A project proposal to develop this novel service.
