DESCRIPTION:The main objectives of the hadron collider physics school (HAS
CO) are introductory topics in elementary particle physics\, in particular
in hadron collider physics as relevant for research at the Large Hadron C
ollider (LHC). This includes lectures and tutorials on theoretical foundat
ions of the Standard Model of elementary particle physics as well as exper
imental techniques to test it. Furthermore\, a focus is placed on statisti
cal data analysis and an introduction to the software package ROOT. In a
ddition\, students will have the opportunity to discuss state of the art m
easurements and results with senior scientists in the field. \n\nThe targ
et group are Bachelor\, Master and early PhD students\, i.e. mainly beginn
ers in the field. The main activities will be lectures\, tutorials\, and s
tudent seminars. These will be complemented by excursions\, and sport ac
tivities.\n\nThe learning outcome will be better and more compatible theor
etical knowledge of the fundamentals of elementary particle physics\, but
more importantly als hands-on experience with widely used software tools\,
statistics data analysis and experimental measurement techniques. The exp
ected outputs are software programs\, group presentations\, and short summ
ary reports. The academic achievements will be credited with ECTS points.
\n\nThe school will take place at the Georg-August-Universtät Göttingen
 from 15. - 27. July 2012.\n\nAdress:\nGeorg-August-Universtät Göttingen\
