DESCRIPTION:WELCOME!\nExcited QCD 2013 took place on the beautiful Bjelasn
ica mountain located in the vicinity of the Bosnian capital Sarajevo. Bjel
asnica was a venue of the XIV Winter Olympic Games and it is situated only
30 kilometers from Sarajevo International Airport. The workshop started o
n February 3 and finished on February 9\, 2013\, with scientific lectures
taking place from February 4 to 8. Workshop participants were accomodated
in Hotel Marsal\, only couple of minutes by foot from the Olympic ski slop
es.\nWe are pleased to announce that the Workshop was a topic in the local
media - for a link\, see here.\nWe are equally pleased to announce that B
jelasnica Mountain has proven to be not only a scientific but also an arti
stic inspiration\, as demonstrated by Prof. Maria Ruivo.ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
\nThis edition was the fifth in a series of workshops that had been previo
usly organised in Poland\, Slovakia\, France and Portugal. The workshop co
vered diverse aspects of QCD:\n\n(i) QCD at low energies: excited hadrons\
, glueballs\, multiquarks.\n(ii) QCD at high temperatures and large densit
 ies: heavy-ion collisions\, jets\, diffraction\, hadronisation\, quark-glu
 on plasma\, holography\, colour-glass condensate\, compact stars\, applica
tions to astrophysics.\n\nEmphasis was placed on new developments in theor
y as well as the current experimental status.\nScientific atmosphere\, var
ious discussions about different topics in QCD\, active participation of m
any young researchers and a nice environment have been the main characteri
stics of the previous editions and also the goals for the new edition.\n\n
The talks were all plenary\, 20' long separated by 5' for discussions and
with a coffee break of 30' every two or three talks for more discussions.
An extended lunch break allowed for more discussions and for open-air acti
vities.\n\n\n\nVENUEHotel Marsal is located 1273 m above see level\, exact
ly below the ski slopes of Bjelasnica. The mountain itself is 2067 m high\
; it represented the venue for men's alpine skiing at the XIV Winter Olymp
ics. A high-resolution picture of the mountain is available here and pictu
res of Bjelasnica from the '80s\, '90s and presence can be found on the we
bpage of the Olympic Centre '84.\nRecommended arrival and departure days f
or the workshop are February 3 and February 9\, 2013 but you can also arri
ve\, e.g.\, on February 2nd if you find a cheaper flight (see the section
on Travel Information). A map of surroundings is available here.\nThe cost
of the accomodation is approximately 52€/night\, full board is included
. All participants will obtain a single room per default. If you prefer yo
u may opt for accomodation with a second person in the room in which case
the accommodation costs ~42€/night/person. Do not forget to indicate the
name of the accompanying person during registration or notify us by e-mai
l afterwards.\nInternet is available in all hotel rooms free of charge. Th
e hotel accepts Visa\, Master Card and American Express credit cards\, cas
h (the local currency „marka“\, euros and dollars) as well as maestro
cards.\nMiscellaneous information about the venue:\n1. Ski map of Bjelasni
ca is available on the webpage of Hotel Marsal (click on the link at the b
ottom of the webpage). The ski pass should cost ~80€ for six days\, i.e.
\, less than 15€/day. Ski equipment (skis\, ski poles\, boots) can be re
nted in the Hotel for ~6€/day\; skiing takes place between 9am and 4pm.
Weather permitting\, night ski also takes place from 6:30pm until 9pm.Note
: to buy a ski pass\, please simply go to the ski slopes cash register ("k
asa") and indicate the type of pass you would like to have (day pass\, sev
en-day pass\, ...).Note: in the Hotel you can also rent a snowboard + boot
 s for ~7.50€/day\; a sledge costs ~ 2.50€/day.\n2. The hotel has been
named after Marshal Tito\, the picture of whom is in the reception hall.\n
 3. And just in case your were wondering: the hotel has informed us that th
ere are no mines on the Bjelasnica mountain and that there have never been
any. The mountain is actually very jaunty in the winter. Thus skiing off
track is possible but not recommended due to the danger of a close encount
 er with a tree.\n\nhttp://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=19507
