DESCRIPTION:Speakers: ARCHILLI\, Flavio (Istituto Nazionale Fisica Nuclear
e (IT))\nRare lepton decays of the B(s)\, D and K mesons are sensitive pro
bes of New Physics. In particular\, the search for the decays B(s) -> μ+
μ- provides information on the presence of new (pseudo-)scalar particles.
LHCb is well suited for these analyses due to its large acceptance and t
rigger efficiency\, as well as its excellent invariant mass resolution and
lepton identification capabilities. The status of these analyses with ~1
fb-1 of pp collisions collected by LHCb in 2011 at √s=7 TeV is reviewed.

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: CALVI\, Marta (Univ. degli Studi Milano-Bicocca (IT)
 )\nLepton flavor violating decays such as τ -> μ+ μ- μ+ or B- -> D(*)+
μ- μ- are sensitive probes of New Physics (NP). The discovery of neutri
no oscillations implies that at some level there is lepton flavor violatio
n\, and in many well motivated extensions of the SM the effects are expect
ed to be visible in τ -> μ+ μ- μ+ decays. LHCb is well suited for this
analysis due to the large tau production from charm decays and LHCb’s e
xcellent invariant mass resolution. Like-sign dimuon final states such as
B- -> D(*)+ μ- μ- can be sensitive to the existence of Majorana neutrino
 s. The status of these analyses with ~1 fb–1 of pp collisions collected
by LHCb in 2011 at √s=7 TeV is reviewed.\n\nhttp://indico.cern.ch/contri

the \nATLAS physics program\, and are becoming more prevalent\, given the\

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: JENNENS\, David Thomas (University of Melbourne (AU)
)\nTau leptons will play an important role in the physics program\nat the
LHC. They will be used not only in searches for new\nphenomena like the Hi
ggs boson or Supersymmetry and electroweak\nmeasurements but also in detec
tor related studies like the\ndetermination of the missing transverse ener
gy scale.\n\nOptimal identification of hadronically decaying tau leptons i
s achieved\nby using detailed information from tracking and calorimeter de
tector\ncomponents. Variables describing the properties of calorimeter ene
rgy\ndeposits and track reconstruction within tau candidates are combined
in\nmulti-variate discriminants\, to achieve high rejection against backgr
ounds.\n\nThe identification efficiencies are measured by W->taunu and\nZ-
 >tautau events\, and compared with the prediction of the Monte Carlo\nsimu
lation. The energy scale uncertainties for tau leptons are\ndetermined by
investigating single hadron calorimeter response\, as well\nas kinematic
 distributions in Z->tautau events.\n\nhttp://indico.cern.ch/contributionDi

the\nCKM matrix element |Vus|. The experimental precision is however\nlim

er both the phase space integral and the detector\nacceptances. \nThe NA48

ptonic decays of charged kaons\, based on 4.3 million Ke3 and\n3.5 million
Kmu3 decays\, both with negligible background. The result\nmatches the pr
ecision of the current world average on the vector and\nscalar form factor
s and allows to significantly reduce the form factor\nuncertainty on |Vus|
. In addition\, the comparison of both channels\nsets tight constraints on
lepton flavor violation and other possible\nnew physics.\n\nhttp://indico

Among the places to look for deviations from the SM are new quarks familie
 s that can appear as a fourth\nfamily with Higgs\, a “strong” fourth f
amily without Higgs or vector-like\nquarks. A potential extension for the
SM would be the adjonction a 4th family of\nheavy chiral fermions that cou
ld provide new sources of CP violation to\nexplain the matter-antimatter a
symmetry in the Universe\, and allow\nfor a heavier Higgs boson while rema
ining consistent with other precision\nelectroweak studies. This poster wi
ll review various searches for 4th generation quarks\nperformed using data
collected in 7 TeV LHC proton-proton collisions with the ATLAS detector.\

uld be one of the most incisive probes of quark flavor physics this decade
. This sensitivity is unique in quark flavor physics and allows probing o
f essentially all models of new physics that couple to quarks within the r
each of the LHC. Furthermore\, a high precision measurement is sensitive t
o many models of new physics with mass scales well beyond the direct reach
of the LHC. The ORKA initiative aims to precisely measure this process
based on established detector techniques driven with the Fermilab Main Inj

he ORKA proposal. The experimental technique and prospects will be discus

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: YU\, Chaehyun (KIAS)\nWe construct flavor-dependent
 chiral U(1)' models\nwith a Z' boson which couples to the right-handed up-
type quarks\nin the standard model. To make the models have realistic reno
rmalizable Yukawa couplings\, we introduce new Higgs doublets with nonzero
U(1)' charges. Anomaly-free condition can be satisfied by adding extra ch
iral fermions. We show that these models could analyze the discrepancy bet
ween the SM prediction and empirical data in the top forward-backward asym
metry at the Tevatron. We also \ndiscuss the top charge asymmetry at the L
HC in this model. \nWe emphasize that unlike the simple Z' model\, our mod
el could be compatible with the stringent constraints from the same sign t
op pair production because of destructive interferences between contributi
ons from the Z' and Higgs boson exchanges.\n\nhttp://indico.cern.ch/contri

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: AMHIS\, Yasmine Sara (Ecole Polytechnique Federale d

→ J/ψ φ decays is one of the key goals of the LHCb experiment. Its val
ue is predicted to be very small in the Standard Model but can be signific
antly enhanced in many models of new physics. We present the world’s bes
t measurement of φs and the first observation of a non-zero ∆Γs based
upon ~1 fb−1 of data collected at LHCb during 2011. φs can also be meas
ured using the predominantly CP-odd Bs → J/ψ π π decay mode. We prese
nt this measurement and the combination of φs from both J/ψ φ and J/ψ
π π decay modes. Additionally we present first results on other Bs decay
modes\, potentially interesting for complementary measurements of φs\, s

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: SZUMLAK\, Tomasz (AGH Univesity of Science and Tech

hat the detector is robust and functioning very well. However\, the limit
of 1 fb-1 of data per year cannot be overcome without improving the detect
or. We therefore plan for an upgraded spectrometer by 2018 with a 40 MHz r
eadout and a much more flexible software-based triggering system that will
increase the data rate as well as the efficiency specially in the hadroni
