DESCRIPTION:The Technology and Instrumentation in Particle Physics 2014 (T
IPP 2014) conference is the third in the new series of international confe
rences in the field of particle physics sponsored by IUPAP. The program fo
cuses on all areas of detector development and instrumentation in particle
physics\, astro-particle physics and closely related fields. \n\nIn the f
ollowing a rough general guideline: for the existing experiments/projects
 (running\, under construction\, or in the plan\, or large R&D projects)\,
we are soliciting two types of talks. One type is the overview talk (~25+5
min) for each experiment/project\, the other type is more elaborate/focus
ed/short talks on sub-detectors (15+5 mins). For individual smaller scale
(R&D) work\, one abstract/talk should be good enough (length somewhat flex
ible\, typically short). \n\nThe areas covered by the parallel tracks are
categorized as follows:\n\nExperimental detector systems \nGaseous detecto
 rs \nSemiconductor detectors\nCalorimeters \nParticle identification \nPho
ton detectors \nDark Matter Detectors \nNeutrino Detectors \nAstrophysics
and space instrumentation \nFront-end electronics Trigger and data acquisi
tion systems \nMachine Detector Interface and beam instrumentation \nInstr
umentation for medical\, biological and materials research \n\nSince this
is a science driven cross-disciplinary conference on Technology and Instru
mentation\, the overview talks from each experiment should not be the usua
l "beauty contest" type of presentations shown at typical physics or hardw
are conferences. The overview talk for a given experiment should start fro
m science motivations\, then focus on the challenges in technology and ins
trumentation\, and how the experiment/project overcame the challenges\, th
e experience of designing and building such systems and lessons learned. W
hat would especially be good to hear is not only what the challenges were\
, but what challenges they are still struggling to overcome! This conferen
ce is not for polished talks about all that is beautiful and works well. W
e'd like to hear what the limitations are of the current experiments and h
ow it limits the science and focus on ideas on how to break these barriers
. The overview talks could reference/advertise the shorter (more focused)
talks from the same experiment. One could think of the overview talks as "
mini-plenary" talks (one per experiment/project). In some cases\, especial
ly large sub-detectors\, it is also possible to consider an overview talk
(with a few abstracts on the details).\n\nhttp://indico.cern.ch/conference
