DESCRIPTION:Speakers: STEERENBERG\, Rende ()\nIn the recent New Opportunit
ies in the Physics Landscape at CERN\, and Neutrino Strategy workshop orga
nized at CERN in 2009\, a neutrino experiment proposal followed by a lette
r of intent as presented where the revival of a PS originated neutrino bea
m to study sterile neutrinos was proposed. The idea is to reuse the neutri
no beam infrastructure made in 1980's for the neutrino beam from PS to BEB
C and novel detectors as that of LArgon TPC. This presentation will give a
n overview of the experimental facility lay-out and the challenging requir
ements. The PS beam production together with extraction\, beam transport a
nd secondary beam production will be addressed.\n\nhttp://indico.cern.ch/c

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: EVRARD\, Sebastien ()\nThe High Radiation to Materia
ls (HiRadMat) facility at CERN/SPS is designed to allow testing of acceler
ator components\, in particular those of LHC\, to the impact of high-inten
sity pulsed beams. It will be opened to all CERN users and external group
s as all other experimental areas and test beams. The facility is also par
t of the EUCARD FP7 program as open access\, which aims at supporting and
encouraging participation of EU collaborators interested in tests of mater
ials for accelerator or detector R&D. \nThe installation of the dedicated
line and experimental area in TCC6 and in the old WANF area (TNC tunnel)
is planned during the 2010-2011 shutdown. The presentation following a br
ief overview of the project will focus on the status and prospects for 201
0 activities and next shutdown. In particular\, the preparations for the
WANF dismantling and the installation of the new facility will be presente
 d. Finally\, the issues concerning the operation of the facility: beam ti
me and handling of the users will be discussed.\n\nhttp://indico.cern.ch/c

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: BAIRD\, Simon ()\nThis talk will introduce the sessi
on and outline the boundary conditions that have been set for the followin
g presentations. \nSPL and PS2 are planned to replace the current LHC pre-
injectors (LINAC4\, PSB & PS). However\, as SPL and PS2 will probably not
be on-line and fully operational before early to mid-2020’s\, the existi
ng machines will have to run for at least another 12-15 years. This sessio
n will examine what actions should be envisaged to extend this lifetime fo
r a further 10 years until the 2030’s\, which is the expected lifetime o
f the LHC. Major upgrades of the Accelerator performance are not included.
There will not be any written papers\, but the presentations will be stor

e the first ion beam injected into the LHC on 23rd of October 2009.\nThis
presentation will expose the principal faults that occurred during the 200

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: STEERENBERG\, Rende ()\nThe demand for particles\, p

the requirements set by our clients becomes more and more a challenge\, ev

ther with a brief analysis on how they could be met. From this analysis a
set of basic super cycles are proposed for the 2010 run\, which together w
ith the accelerator schedule will lead to an overview of what the differen
t facilities can deliver. At the same time this will identify the shortfal

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: DEGHAYE\, Stephane ()\nInCA is the renovation projec
t of the high-level controls of the PS complex. Under development since ea
rly 2008\, the system is regularly deployed in operation during dedicated
MDs in order to validate the latest developments and steer the next phases
. This original approach proved itself fruitful as it produced important r
esults in the last two years. In addition to the MDs\, a simplified versio
n of the system was successfully deployed for the LEIR’09 run. The next
goal is to deploy the system on the PS machine mid 2010. While we will str
ive to keep the deployment’s negative effects on the PS operation to the
minimum\, it is clear that this will not be transparent. Furthermore\, th
e system will bring new features and performance improvements fulfilling l
ong lasting requests such as a solution to the limited number of timing us

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: TOMMASINI\, Davide ()\nThe magnets installed in the
CERN accelerator complex provide impressively high standards of reliable o

ations\, not signaled by observable precursors\, increases with time and t
he maintenance plans have to be adapted to the magnet “age”. \nThe tal
k\, summarizes the regular maintenance strategy of the normal conducting m
agnets of the CERN accelerator complex\, with emphasis on actions to reinf
orce this program considering the age of the machines. \nFurthermore an ov

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: DELEVAL\, Serge ()\nThe presentation\, after a brief
summary of the 2009 run from the CV point of view\, will focus on several
major improvements and concerns. Such as the optimization of the water tr
eatment that has shown good result during the last years. The present stat
us of the control system for the PS and SPS cooling stations and the plan
for the future modification will be presented. Several other improvements
will also be explained: upgrade of the leak detection\, the demineralized
water production for all CERN cooling plants and PS ventilation system an
d the chilled water circuit. Since some of these issues will become critic
al in the short future\, a possible consolidation plan will be presented.\

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: OTTO\, Thomas ()\nAt CERN\, various production targe
ts for secondary beams of particles or of atomic ions are in operation. Th
e forced interactions of the primary beam with the target causes a higher
degree of activation of the target system\, of the surrounding structures
and soil and of the air ventilating the area. The activation and the relat
ed ambient dose rate must be taken into account during maintenance\, disma
 ntling and for environmental protection.\n\nhttp://indico.cern.ch/contribu

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: PERRIN\, Daniel ()\nThe levels of ionising radiation
around CERN facilities are currently monitored by two systems\, ARCON (co
nceived for the LEP) and RAMSES the state of the art system for the LHC\,
CNGS and CTF3. Needs of monitoring systems for radiation protection evolve
with CERN activities. The talk will present the strategy chosen to replac
e ARCON with RAMSES and will put the accent on availability\, maintainabil
ity and durability of monitoring systems for radiation protection.\n\nhttp

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: GRUWE\, Magali ()\nThe aim of Quality Assurance is t
o provide all stakeholders with the possibility to acquire the confidence
that a given process or product meets a set of expected characteristics. \
nQuality Assurance applied to accelerator Safety requires the identificati
on of the expected safety characteristics\, as well as the identification
of Safety stakeholders with their respective roles.\nQuality Assurance in
accelerator Safety is then explained through two examples:\nSome key equip
ment (EIS) are assigned a Safety function to stop the beam to ensure perso
nnel Safety in case of intrusion or during a regular access. We show how a
structured Safety file can contribute to providing Quality Assurance rega
rding these key equipment (EIS).\nIn preparation of and during maintenance
operations on radioactive equipment or in a radioactive environment\, the
application of the ALARA procedure is documented in a “Dossier d’Inte
rvention en Milieu Radioactif”. The process and the document itself are
presented to show how the confidence that the process respects the basic r
adiation protection rules at all stages can be shared between intervening
 parties\, management and Safety responsible.\n\nhttp://indico.cern.ch/cont
