DESCRIPTION:A DITANET Topical Workshop on “High Intensity Proton Beam Di
agnostics” will be organized by CEA Saclay\, on September 26th and 27th
of 2011. The workshop will take place in Kyriad hotel of Massy-Palaiseau\,
located at 82 place de France\, 12 kilometers south of Paris.\nMost high
intensity proton beam facilities over the world are in different project p
hases: operation (SNS)\, commissioning (Linac4)\, design (eg Spiral2\, FAI
R\, IFMIF-EVEDA\, ESS...) and prospective (eg MYRRHA). They cover a large
range of physics from fundamental nuclear physics to fusion and nuclear wa
ste transmutation. Their diagnostics needs are specific but they all have
to cope with high beam power imposing peculiar care for non-interceptive o
nes. Several challenges have to be faced in such facilities due to:\n\n	Hi
gh beam power: Machine protection system\, emittance measurement...Space c
harge: transverse profile and emittance measurement...Low β beams: Beam p
osition and bunch length monitors\, beam current transformers...Background
 : radiation-hard materials\, electronics...\nDuring this workshop\, all as
pects of diagnostics designed for high intensity proton accelerators will
be discussed.\nDuring the first day\, diagnostics of the accelerators will
be presented with particular emphasis on the challenges\, followed by ope
n discussions. On the second day\, DITANET trainees will open the first se
ssion presenting their research work progress\, followed by a tutorial ses
sion on 'hot topics' before a final round table discussion.\n\nhttp://indi
