DESCRIPTION:Technical Evolution Groups – Mandate\nTo reassess the implem
entation of the grid infrastructures that we use in the light of the exper
ience with LHC data\, and technology evolution\, but never forgetting the
important successes and lessons\, and ensuring that any evolution does not
disrupt our successful operation.\n \nThe work should:\n Document a str
ategy for evolution of the technical implementation of the WLCG distribute
d computing infrastructure.\n	\n This strategy should provide a clear sta
tement of needs for WLCG\, which can also be used to provide input to any
external middleware and infrastructure projects.\n\n \nThe work should\,
in each technical area\, take into account the current understanding of:\n
Experiment and site needs in the light of experience with real data\, op
 erational needs (effort\, functionality\, security\, etc.)\, and constrain
ts\;\n	\n Lessons learned over several years in terms of deployability of
software\;\n	\n Evolution of technology over the last several years\;\n
\n Partnership and capabilities of the various middleware providers.\n\nI
t should also consider issues of:\n Long term support and sustainability
of the solutions\;\n	\n Achieving commonalities between experiments where
possible\;\n	\n Achieving commonalities across all WLCG supporting infra
 structures (EGI-related\, OSG\, NDGF\, etc).\nDeliverables\n Assessment o
f the current situation with middleware\, operations\, and support structu
re\n	\n Strategy document setting out a plan and needs for the next 2-5 y
ears\nDatabases Working Group Topics\nThe bullets represent the topics tha
t should be included in the discussions\, but are not exclusive.\n NOSQL
 vs Oracle\, MySQL\, etc\n	\n Frontier\, squids\, vs 3D/Streams\, GoldenGa
 te\, DataGuard etc\n	\n CORAL\, COOL\n	\n What is framework for deployin
g new applications that need a DB? (e.g. if dev has used a random db\, how
is that made into a service?)\n\n----------------\nWe do not want to repe
at information from the June 2011 Database Futures Workshop (http://indico
 .cern.ch/conferenceTimeTable.py?confId=130874)\, especially things describ
ing the current situation\, although a quick refresher on plans shared the
n can be helpful.  We want to focus on what should be changing over the n
ext 2-5 years\, both things currently planned and especially things not ye
t planned but which are lacking or could be improved or could be better sh
ared between experiments.  Bring proposals\, or describe ideas during dis
cussion time\, or at least talk about what the needs will be if not the so
lutions.  Set your sights on after the long 2013 shutdown and later.\n---
