DESCRIPTION:Stefan Lueders\, PhD\, graduated from the Swiss Federal Instit
ute of Technology in Zurich and joined CERN in 2002. Being initially devel
oper of a common safety system used in all four experiments at the Large H
adron Collider\, he gathered expertise in cyber-security issues of control
systems. Consequently in 2004\, he took over responsibilities in securing
CERN's accelerator and infrastructure control systems against cyber-threa
ts. Subsequently\, he joined the CERN Computer Security Incident Response
Team and is today heading this team as CERN's Computer Security Officer wi
th the mandate to coordinate all aspects of CERN's computer security --- o
ffice computing security\, computer centre security\, GRID computing secur
ity and control system security --- whilst taking into account CERN's oper
ational needs. Dr. Lueders has presented on these topics at many different
occasions to international bodies\, governments\, and companies\, and pub
lished several articles.\n\nWith the prevalence of modern information tech
nologies and its increasing integration into our daily live\, digital syst
ems become more and more playground for evil people. While in the past\, a
ttacks were driven by fame& kudos\, nowadays money is the motivating fa
ctor. Just the recent months have shown several successful attacks against
  e.g. Sony\, PBS\, UNESCO\, RSAsecurity\, Citibank\, and others. Credit ca
rd information of hundreds of thousands of people got exposed. Affected co
mpanies not only lost their assets and data\, also their reputation has su
ffered. Thus\, proper computer security measures are essential. Without qu
estion\, security must even more become an inherent ingredient when develo
 ping\, deploying\, and operating applications\, web sites\, and computing
services. \nThese lectures shall give an overview of general computer and
information security\, subsequently focus on the problems of creating sec
ure applications and computer services\, highlight the importance of secur
 ity operations (i.e. prevention\, protection\, detection and response)\, d
elve into the specifies of securing the critical infrastructure and their
digital control systems as well as securing cloud and distributed computin
g\, and discuss the impact of so-called Web 2.0 technologies to security a
 nd privacy.\n\nhttp://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=178503
