DESCRIPTION:AMS-02 has taken the high performance technologies used in par
 ticle physics and implemented them for use in low Earth orbit. Safety aspe
 cts for the Space Shuttle flight\, that carried AMS_02 to the Internationa
 l Space Station\, Space environment and inaccessibility during the life of
  AMS_02 are some of the aspects which have driven the design of the experi
 ment. The technical challenges to build such a detector have been surmount
 ed through the close collaboration amongst the AMS scientists and industri
 es around the world. Their efforts have resulted in the development of new
