DESCRIPTION:Insertion quadrupoles with large aperture and high gradient ar
e required to achieve the luminosity upgrade goal of 1035 cm-2 s-1 at the
Large Hadron Collider. In 2003\, the US Department of Energy established t
he LHC Accelerator Research Program (LARP) to address key technical challe
nges associated with the upgrade. LARP is a collaboration of Brookhaven Na
tional Laboratory\, Fermilab\, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory\, and
the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory\, working in close coordination
with CERN. The focus of the magnet R&D effort is on development of advance
d IR quadrupoles using Nb3Sn in order to operate at high field and with su
fficient temperature margin. Program components address technology issues
including conductor and cable development\, coil and structure fabrication
\, quench performance\, field quality and alignment\, length scale-up\, an
d quench protection. The main accomplishments of the magnet R&D program to
date will be reviewed\, and plans to complete the technology demonstratio
n and prepare for magnet production will be presented.\n\nhttp://indico.ce
