DESCRIPTION:This course is recommended as an essential preparation for tho
 se about to attend the CERN Accelerator School course in October at Loutra
 ki but is also of interest to a much wider audience - indeed anyone with a
  technical or scientific background who would like to become familiar with
  the principles of accelerator design. No specialist knowledge of accelera
 tor theory is needed but a passing familiarity with Maxwell's equations\, 
 matrix algebra and the solution of second order differential equations wil
 l be frequently exercised. The series of 10 talks span all aspects of circ
 ular machines and cover in a simple way the principles of focusing\, betat
 ron motion\, dispersion\, chromaticity\, radio-frequency systems\, phase s
