DESCRIPTION:Lecture 1\n\nReliability\, Availability\, Maintainability and 
 Safety (RAMS) are the most important performance characteristics of any pr
 oduct\, system or service. The RAMS characteristics do not only influence 
 the usability of the product but also the user satisfaction and the operat
 ional costs. These characteristics have to be designed into the product an
 d their realisation carefully monitored during the manufacturing\, integra
 tion and installation phases. \nThis lecture is an introduction into the R
 AMS philosophy\, applied to a scientific technical project from the identi
 fication of the needs and the definition of the corresponding requirements
  through their implementation in the design/development phases and the com
 pliance demonstrations during all project phases.\n\nThe typical manageria
 l and technical tasks are defined and explained also with respect to the o
