DESCRIPTION:We explore several aspects of the semiclassical gauge/string c
 orrespondence along the lines of the recent proposal of Gubser\, Klebanov 
 and Polyakov (hep-th/0204051). We discuss the relation of strings spinning
  on S(5) and the periodic Sine-Gordon soliton\, the stability of strings s
 pinning on AdS(5) and S(5) and the universality class of the QCD-like rela
