DESCRIPTION:\n HARD PROBES 2004\n 1st International Conference on Hard and
  Electromagnetic Probes of High Energy Nuclear Collisions\n\n\nIn the expe
 rimental study of high energy heavy ion collisions\, it has\nbecome increa
 singly clear that hard probes are of basic importance.\nThis meeting will 
 therefore address how the production of\nquarkonia\nopen charm and beauty\
 njets\nphotons and dileptons\n\nand initial state nuclear parton structure
 s can be used to obtain\nconclusive results from the heavy ion program.\n\
 nThe meeting will start with a pre-conference school for graduate\nstudent
 s and young post-docs on Thursday\, November 4\, 2004\,\nconsisting of sur
 vey lectures on different aspects of the topic. \nThe actual conference wi
 ll begin on Friday morning\, November 5\, 2004.\n\nThe conference will be 
 held in Ericeira\, a charming fishing town and\nresort on the open Atlanti
 c\, somewhat northwest of Lisbon. The\nparticipants will be accommodated i
