DESCRIPTION:Grid computing empowers collaborations across different instit
utions by enabling them to share resources of data and computation. Curren
t developments using grid computing are in research ('e-Research')\, engin
eering\, public service\, provision of digital data libraries.\n\nThe Nati
onal Grid Service (NGS) is the core UK grid service resulting from the UK'
s e-Science program. It is intended for the production use of computationa
l and data grid resources for scientific and academic research purposes. U
se of the NGS is available to members of the UK academic and scientific co
mmunities. Projects involving large data volumes\, high computation requir
ements or geographically widespread collaborators may benefit from using t
he NGS. \n\nThe goals of this course are to give participants:\nAn underst
anding of the concepts of Grid Computing and e-Research.\nAn orientation t
o the NGS and the Grid Operations Support Centre (http://www.grid-support.
ac.uk/).\nSufficient practical experience to allow initial use of the Nati
 onal Grid Service in future.\n\n\nhttp://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.
