The 2nd Rio Grid School aims at introducing Grid technologies to potential users and at studying and practicing application development on the EGEE Grid infrastructure. The School is organized due to support that the Government, specially CNPq, offers to adopt technologies based on grids. Several grids start to be formed in Brazil, moreover others initiatives with Europe already provide shared e-infrastructures in the region (e.g. EELA). However, using grids technologies involves a set of new concepts and tools which are hard to install and use. The school comes to make the first step to get these infrastructures well-known and to make European grids and grid technologies available for academic purposes in South America.
