With apologies, this tutorial has had to be cancelled due to illness. This agenda is under development. This is an initial run of this course and will invite comment for future development. Please note: registration must close at 12:00 on Thursday 5 July. The course will provide an introduction to developing grid portals with the GridSphere Portal Framework; the Sportlets Toolkit, a Java component-oriented framework for developing Web 2.0 user interfaces; and the Vine Toolkit, a framework for developing Grid-enabled applications. This tutorial will cover general web and grid programming concepts, illustrated with practical examples. This full-day tutorial will be concluded with an open-discussion session to allow audience member to ask further questions and make suggestions to the OMII-Europe Project for new features and technologies to support in its OMII-Europe Gateway. Objectives: - To introduce the concepts of portal and portlet development using GridSphere, the Sportlets Tookit (Web 2.0 framework), and the Vine Toolkit. - To give practical experience in using these tools - To demonstrate their use in a preview of the OMII-Europe Gateway, scheduled for release in September 2007. Prerequisites: - General Java programming knowledge - Familiarity with Java Servlets helpful but not required - Familiarity with Java Portlets helpful but not required - Familiarity with HTML and Javascript helpful but not required Participants will be charged £20 to cover the cost of catering.
