Consortium: - 11 partners, 9 from DILIGENT and 2 new partners (FAO, WorldFish). - More then 50% of people involved continues from DILIGENT (only 2 of the 9 DILIGENT partners partially change their staff) - Even more Italians in the project then in DILIGENT :) (7 out of the 11 partners have Italian speaking staff) Project Objective - From the DoW: “The project will deploy, progressively consolidate and expand the e-Infrastructures built so far by the EGEE and DILIGENT projects so that they address the needs of several new scientific communities affiliated with the broad disciplines of Environmental Monitoring and Fishery Resources Management. - The concrete objectives are (1) Maintain a production e-Infrastructure based on shared computation, storage, and generic service resources offered by EGEE and DILIGENT (2) Provide Virtual Research Environments (VREs) for ESA, FAO and WorldFish based on data and domain-specific service resources offered by these large international organisations (3) Extend and consolidate the the gCube system. JRA activity: - The project will consolidate and enhance the technology developed in the DILIGENT project, the gCube framework. gCube is a distributed system of middleware and domain services for the definition and management of Virtual Research Environments (VREs). It abstract spaces in which users collaborate through controlled sharing of hardware, data, and application resources. gCube currently provides 137 software components (60 WSRF services), - To improve the usage of the common parts of gCube, speed up the development of new gCube service and allow a better adoption of gCube inside and outside the project a core development framework will be implement: gCore. - JRA1 planning, JRA2 support to ESA; JRA3 support to FAO and WorldFish; JRA4 gCube development SA activity: - The overall objective of the Service Activity is to make available and maintain a stable production infrastructure. This production infrastructure must be a well supported infrastructure, running stable, tested and reliable software. - The gCube software will be distributed after going through rigourous integration, deployment testing, and testing. These activities will be based on the ETICS system. - Infrastructure organisation: one Management Centre (CERN) and several resource and support centres. Each site provides gLite nodes (part of EGEE production infrastructure), gCube nodes and Community specific nodes. - Deploy the infrastructure progressively (starting with more experienced partners). First production infrastructure milestone on M6 supporting one user community (ESA). - SA1 production infrastructure; JRA2 user community infrastructure requirements; SA3 integration, testing and distribution NA activity - Complex management structure with two decision boards: the PMB and the GMA (General Members Assembly). Not clear which board decide on what. - NA1 project management; NA2 scientific and the management; NA3 dissemination; NA4 training; NA5 Community VRE definition User Communities: - ESA: same objective as in DILIGENT. Big pressure on D4Science to make available a real production infrastructure. Reference to many services and big collections of data available for D4Science (however from the DILIGENT experience they are not easily accessible) - FAO and WorldFish: new interesting community. Many common requirements with ESA (e.g automatic reporting generation). Compared with ESA they have less "demanding" applications and smaller data sets. Good set of tools to be execute on gLite. Really open to share their applications and content. However, FAO and WorldFish are complex organisations with many organisational levels.
