Description

CERN and The n_TOF Collaboration is organizing an international symposium on the use of neutron beams in basic science and for applications in advanced nuclear technologies. The symposium is organized in coincidence with the completion of the n_TOF-ND-ADS (n_TOF Nuclear Data for Accelerator Driven Systems) project, a project which has been part of the effort of the European Commission on supporting basic research related to the development of advanced options for the partitioning and transmutation of nuclear waste. The aim of the symposium is to present to a wide community the results obtained during the initial three years of operation of the n_TOF facility at CERN and to overview the opportunities for the development of activities in the immediate future. Contributions on the objectives on the three main fields of action during the 2002-2004 experimental campaigns at n_TOF (nuclear data for advanced technologies, nuclear astrophysics and basic nuclear physics) are foreseen as well as interventions/overviews on the possible use of neutron beams in basic science.

Topics treated at n_BANT include, among others:

* Advanced neutron capture & fission experiments

* Neutrons in astrophysics - stellar and explosive nucleosynthesis

* ADS & waste management - now and in 2010

* Future data needs for science and nuclear technologies

* New experimental opportunities at RIB facilities and advanced neutron sources

* Theories and models for neutron induced reactions

* Dissemination of nuclear data for science and technology
