Joint BE/EN/TE SEMINAR: Laser Scanning at CERN

by Tobias Dobers (CERN)

Thursday, 10 December 2009 from to (Europe/Zurich)
at CERN ( 6-2-024 - BE Auditorium Meyrin )
Description
The laser scanning technology appeared in the late nineties of the
20th century and has been extensively used in different domains such
as archeology, architecture and also more and more for industrial applications.
The results, which can be quickly visualized, are also very spectacular.
Since five years, the SU group has scanned many specific areas in the LHC
using this technology and the data has been used by the integration team
before any new installation of equipment in the tunnel.
This seminar intends to present the laser scanner principle, the results of
these "integration" scanning that have been realized at CERN, the constraints
of the technology including the data flow, the sequences' of the treatment
and the level of service that can be provided by the SU section.
Then, a brief introduction to more accurate "industrial" laser scanning will
be given, but this will be the subject of another seminar.
