DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Dr. YANG\, Haijun (University of Michigan)\nIn order
to exploit fully the physics potential of future lepton\ncolliders\, high
ly precise tracking systems will be needed\, for which\nsystematic alignme
nt uncertainties must be small. We describe\nongoing R&D in frequency scan
ned interferometry (FSI) to be applied\nto alignment monitoring of a detec
tor's charged particle tracking\nsystem\, in addition to its beam pipe and
final-focus quadrupole magnets.\nIn FSI alignment\, one measures hundreds
of absolute point-to-point\ndistances of detector elements in 3 dimension
s by using an array of\nbeams split from a central laser. We report here o
 n progress using\na dual-laser FSI single-channel prototype. Dual lasers w
ith oppositely\nscanned frequency directions permit cancellation of many s
ystematic errors\, making the alignment robust against vibrations and envi
 ronmental\ndisturbances. Under realistic environmental conditions\, a prec
ision of\nabout 0.2 microns was achieved for a distance of about 40 cm for
the\nprototype. Work is now under way to demonstrate a multi-channel syst
em\non the bench. Recent progress will be summarized.\n\nhttp://indico.cer
