 \, USA)\nThe most significant data challenge for CMS in 2005 has been the 
 LCG service\nchallenge 3 (SC3).  For CMS the main purpose of the challenge
  was to exercise a\nrealistic LHC startup scenario using complete experime
 nt system\, in what concerns\ntransferring and serving data\, submitting j
 obs and collecting their data\, employing\nthe next-generation world-wide 
 LHC computing service.\n\nA number of significant new components were subm
 itted to the test by LCG. Compared to\nthe past data challenges a number o
 f important parameters have been changed for CMS\,\nand a number of improv
 ements to software and systems we tested.  We describe our\nbenchmark goal
 s and how the tests were performed.  We report on the results achieved\,\n
