DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Prof. RIMOLDI\, A. (PAVIA UNIVERSITY & INFN)\nThe si
mulation for the ATLAS experiment is presently operational in a full OO\ne
nvironment and it is presented here in terms of successful solutions to pr
oblems\ndealing with application in a wide community using a common framew
ork. The ATLAS\nexperiment is the perfect scenario where to test all appli
cations able to satisfy the\ndifferent needs of a big community. Following
a well stated strategy of transition\nfrom the GEANT3 to the GEANT4-based
simulation\, a good validation programme during\nthe last months confirme
d the characteristics of reliability\, performance and \nrobustness of thi
s new tool in comparison with the results of the previous\nsimulation. Gen
eration\, simulation and digitization steps on different full sets of\nphy
sics events were tested in terms of performance and robustness in comparis
ons with\nthe same samples undergoing the old GEANT3-based simulation. The
simulation program\nis simultaneously tested on all different testbeam se
tups characterizing the R&D\nprogramme of all subsystems belonging to the
ATLAS detector with comparison to real\ndata in order to validate the phys
ics content and the reliability in the detector\ndescription of each compo
 nent.\n\nhttp://indico.cern.ch/contributionDisplay.py?contribId=67&session
