DESCRIPTION:Speakers: SCHOSSMAIER\, Klaus (CERN)\nThe data-acquisition sof
tware framework DATE for the ALICE experiment at the LHC has\nevolved over
a period of several years. The latest version DATE V5 is geared for\ndepl
oyment during the test and commissioning phase. The DATE software is desig
ned to\nruns on several hundred machines being installed with Scientific L
inux CERN (SLC) to\nhandle the data streams of approximatly 400 optical De
tector Data Links (DDLs) from\nthe ALICE sub-detectors and to write full e
 vents onto transient/permanent data\nstorage at a rate of up to 1.25 GB/s.
\n\nDATE V5 consists of a collection of software packages that are respons
ible for the\ndata flow and its formatting to carry out the readout\, the
event-building\, and the\nrecording. Additional software packages are in c
harge of the control\, the system\nconfiguration\, the status and error me
ssage reporting\, the electronic logbook\, the\ndata quality and performan
ce monitoring\, and the memory management. The interfaces to\nthe Experime
nt Control System (ECS) and to the High-Level Trigger (HLT) are\nimplement
ed\, whereas the interfaces to the Detector Control System (DCS) and to th
e\nTrigger System (TRG) are in design status.\n\nThis paper will present t
he software architecture of DATE V5\, the practical\nexperience acquired a
t various detector integration setup\, and future extensions.\n\nhttp://in
