DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Dr. CALANDUCCI\, Tony (INFN Catania)\nNowadays huge
amounts of information are searched and used by people from all over \nthe
world\, but it is not always easy to find out what one is looking for. Se
arch \nengines helps a lot\, but they do not provide a standard and unifor
m way to make \nqueries.\nThe challenge of gLibrary is to design and devel
op a robust system to handle \nMultimedia Contents in a easy\, fast and se
cure way exploiting the Grid.\nExamples of Multimedia Contents are images\
 , videos\, music\, all kind of electronic \ndocuments (PDF\, Excel\, Power
Point\, Word\, HTML)\, E-Mails and so on. New types of \ncontent can be ad
ded easily into the system. \nThanks to the fixed structure of the attribu
tes per each content type\, queries are \neasier to perform allowing the u
sers to choose their search criteria among a \npredefined set of attribute
s.\nThe following are possible use examples:\n- A user wants to look for a
ll the comedies in which Jennifer Aniston performed \ntogether with Ben St
iller\, produced in 2004 \; or find all the songs of Led Zeppelin \nthat l
ast for more than 6 minutes\;\n- An user needs to find all the PowerPoint
Presentation about Data Management \nSystem in 2005 run by Uncle Sam (fant
asy name)\;\n- A doctor wants to retrieve all the articles and presentatio
ns about lung cancer \nand download some lung X-ray images to be printed i
n his article for a scientific \nmagazine\;\n- (Google for storage) a job
behaves as a “storage crawler”: it scans all the files \nstored in Sto
rage Elements and publishes their related specific information into \ngLib
rary for later searches through their attributes.\nNot all the users of th
e system have the same authority into the system. Three kind \nof users ar
e enabled: gLibrary Generic Users\, members of a Virtual Organization \nre
cognized by the system\, can browse the library and make queries. They can
  also \nretrieve the wanted files if the submitter user authorized them\;
gLibrary Submitter \nUsers can upload new entries attaching them the prope
r values for the defined \nattributes\; finally gLibrary Administrator are
allowed to define new content type \nand elect Generic User granting them
submission rights.\nA first level of security on single file is implement
ed: files uploaded to Storage \nElements can be encrypted using a symmetri
c key. This will be placed in a special \ndirectory into the system and th
e submitter will define which users are the rights \nto read it.\nAll the
application is built on top of the grid services offered by the EGEE \nmid
dleware: actual data is stored in Storage Elements spread around the world
\, \nwhile the File Catalog keeps track of where they are located. A Metad
ata Catalog \nservice is intensively used to contains the values of attrib
utes and satisfy user’s \nqueries. Finally\, A Virtual Organization Memb
ership Service comes in help to deal \nwith authorization.\n\nhttp://indic
