Description
When experiments get close to data taking, the pace of software
development becomes frantic, and experiments librarians and software
developers rely on performance monitoring and optimization to keep
core resources usage (memory and CPU) under control. Performance
monitoring and optimization share many tools, but they are distinct
processes with very different workflows. In this talk we will outline
the challenges currently facing LHC experiments and review some of the
tools and techniques available, based on the experience of several
HENP experiments.

Paolo began his career as a physicists studying CP violation in the
NA31 and NA48 experiments at CERN. In 1998 he moved to Berkeley to
work on CDF software. In 2000 he joined ATLAS where he helped develop
Athena, ATLAS software framework based on Gaudi, and StoreGate, ATLAS
transient data store. He is currently working on ATLAS performance
monitoring and optimization.
