The Hebden House conference centre is in Hebden Bridge, which is roughly half way between Leeds and Manchester. There is a good rail service to Hebden Bridge from York, Leeds and Manchester Victoria stations. Click on the rail map for a full rail map (pdf) of the region.

The airport with the most connections and a good rail service is Manchester. Some no-frills airlines fly to Liverpool, but transfer is not so easy. Leeds-Bradford airport is also a possibility.

Getting to Hebden Bridge

  • From any of the London airports

I wouldn't go there!! Fly direct to Manchester if you can! But if not, take a plane to one of the other airports below. Heathrow-Manchester has the most frequent connections. If there's a convenient connection to Leeds-Bradford, that might be better.

Alternatively, take the train into London, then see below.

  • From Manchester Airport

    • Rail

Trains run every few minutes from Manchester Airport to Manchester Piccadilly rail station - from there, see below.

Some of those trains go on from Piccadilly and call at Huddersfield - from there, see below.

    • Taxi

      • A taxi all the way to Hebden Bridge will cost £60 or more. Make sure you get a quotation from the taxi driver before you agree to go; there is an official price for destinations outside Manchester.
      • Alternatively, take a taxi to Manchester Victoria rail station (about £15), then a train direct to Hebden Bridge.
    • Car hire

Follow the signs to Leeds M62. Turn off at junctions 20 or 21 (see map) and take the A58 to Littleborough, the A6033 to Todmorden and finally the A646 to Hebden Bridge.
  • From Liverpool Airport

Take the transfer bus to Liverpool town centre, then the train to Manchester Victoria (best) or Manchester Piccadilly (then to Manchester Victoria, as below).

Or take a transfer bus to Manchester Piccadilly rail station (then to Manchester Victoria, as below).

  • From Leeds-Bradford Airport

Take the transfer bus (every hour) to Bradford Interchange, then a train (every half hour) to Hebden Bridge.
  • From London by train

From King's Cross to Leeds, then Hebden Bridge. Or from Euston to Manchester Piccadilly, then as below. (Total journey time is about 4 hours.)
  • From Manchester Piccadilly rail station

Take a tram (£1) or a taxi (£3) to Manchester Victoria rail station.
  • From Huddersfield rail station

Take a taxi (£20-30) to Hebden Bridge.
  • From Manchester Victoria rail station

Trains for Hebden Bridge leave every half hour during the day, every hour during the evening after 6 pm until 11 pm. Click on the train times image to get a pdf timetable or use National Rail Inquiries.

Finding your way round Hebden Bridge

Click on the street map to get a jpeg file. The railway station is at the bottom right. It's about 1/4 mile to the town centre, perhaps 1/2 mile to the conference centre (marked "The Birchcliffe Centre" on the map).

Frequent buses will take you from the rail station into the town centre. Of those, Service B, at 58 minutes past the hour, will take you to the doorstep of the conference centre (ask the driver to set you down).

Service B can also be used to get you from the town centre to the conference centre. It leaves the Commercial Street bus stop on the hour.

But Hebden Bridge is compact. Walking is best!!
