Antwerp guided tours

Our Sunday excursion takes us to the beautiful city of Antwerp.

We will be guided around the city in the morning from 10:15am-1:15pm; here are the three tour options that are available to you. As places on each tour are limited, you will be asked to make a first and second choice.

1) In Rubens' footsteps (max 15)

Your Rubens walking tour begins in the vicinity of the Scheldt, the river that brought Antwerp wealth and enabled its artists to flourish.

This Rubens walk begins near Scheldt, the heart of the city. Make your way to a beautiful part of the historic city centre through narrow streets by the former dwellings of stonemasons and Lombardian bankers. This is the current place to be for antiques and trendy fashion stores. Visit the Rubens’ House on Wapper. With your guide, you will enter the home and studio of Antwerp’s most famous inhabitant, the artist Peter Paul Rubens. Rubens and his family lived in this unique city palace with its sweeping Renaissance garden; it is here that he created some of his most immortal works.

The tour ends on Grote Markt, the most beautiful square in the city. Do not be surprised to discover that you have completely lost your heart to Rubens and Antwerp.

The trail takes you along: Sint-Jansvliet - Wilde Zee - Wapper - Meir - Groenplaats (Rubens’ Statue) - Grote Markt. This includes a short visit to: the Rubens’ house

2) Architecture mosaic (max 20)

Become acquainted with the various styles of architecture in Antwerp.

During this original tour, your guide will show you the historic city centre and allow you to identify some of the architectural styles. You will start with a hint of Roman architecture at the Steen fortress, then discover the Gothic style (Butcher’s Hall or Museum Vleeshuis | Sound of the City and Cathedral of Our Lady), Renaissance (town hall) and Baroque (St. Charles Borromeo’s Church) before ending with Rococo and even Art Deco. Finally, you can try your luck and guess the architectural styles of some of the buildings on Meir and Wapper.

This is an original introduction to the most important buildings and squares of the old city.
The trail takes you along: Steen - Museum Vleeshuis | Sound Of The City - Grote Markt - H. Conscienceplein - Groenplaats - Meir.

It includes a short visit - if open to: the Gothic hall of the Butcher’s Hall and the baroque interior of St. Charles Borromeo’s Church.

3) Antwerp locals welcome you (max 20)

Feel at home in the heart of the beautiful city on the river.

The Antwerp locals are known for their indiscretion, frankness and glib conversation. They are friendly and proud to show you the most beautiful parts of their ‘metropolis’. This walk takes you along charming alleys and squares to the majestic Market Square or Grote Markt and the lively Groenplaats. After this interesting introduction you will immediately feel at home in the heart of the city and you can go on to explore it yourself.

The trail takes you along: Vrijdagmarkt - Vlaeykensgang – Grote Markt (Town Hall and Brabo fountain) - H. Conscienceplein - Groenplaats (Cathedral of our Lady and Rubens statue).

It includes a short visit - if open to: the monumental pedestrian tunnel under the Scheldt, the quiet courtyard of the Museum Plantin-Moretus and the Baroque interior of St. Charles Borromeo’s Church.
