Access to CERN

Accessing CERN on October 14th

Participants should enter CERN through the Main Reception in building 33 (not through the Entrance B). In the Reception area you will receive your access card (which will be the WPCF conference badge as well) and some documentation on the conference.

We suggest that, if possible and of course depending on your travel schedule, you try to pick up your access card from the Reception between 08:00 and 09:00 prior to the start of the conference. During this period, there will be some extra staff in the Reception area in charge of distributing the access badges, and it would facilitate our organisation if a maximum number of people could collect their badges before 09:00.

You can then walk from the Reception through to building 4 (keep going straight through building 33, then building 5, until you get to the end of building 4, where you can go up the stairs to get to the Theory Conference Room).

Please note that after 09:00 the badges will no longer be distributed in the Reception area but available for you to take from the Theory Secretariat in 4-2-004 (the floor below the TH Conference Room). The Reception desk will let you through to pick up your card if you mention that you are there for the WPCF conference.

Please remember that all participants are expected to be in possession of a passport or valid visa (if needed).

Your social insurance cover is the responsibility of your employer or of your institute. If you do not have this kind of insurance, you are under obligation to take the necessary measures to arrange your cover against the economic consequences of accident or illness on the CERN site.

Accessing CERN after you have registered

After you have registered and obtained your access card/WPCF conference badge, you should be able to enter CERN using this badge for the duration of the conference. If you are staying in the CERN hostel, your hostel key should also enable you to enter. Please use Gate B (Main Entrance) to enter CERN at any time other than the morning of the 14th of October.

Access for CERN users

If you are a regular CERN user and have a valid access card, we would like to ask you to pick up your conference badge on 14th of October in building 33, as described above.

Internet Access

Wireless internet access is available throughout the CERN site. You are strongly recommended to register your laptop in advance. The registration can be performed on-line at:

http://cern.ch/registerVisitorComputer
  • Select "I am an external visitor and want to register my portable."
  • When asked, "Do you have an account in the CERN infrastructure?' answer "no", even if you have an account.
  • Be sure that the dates you indicate will cover the full period of your stay.
  • If you do not know how to get the mac address of your machine, you can get some help by clicking on "hardware address" and then on "some tips".
  • You are asked to select a type of wireless connection, but anyone will work.
  • After entering your mac address, remember to click on the button "add" so that the address moves into the "interface card(s)" window.
