Description

To prompt collaboration among the different groups in cosmology in the Léman area, we hold a common discussion session every month and a half. In those, recent news in the field are addressed by experts at a level that we can all understand. Please, suggest papers/subjects to the local organizers. The suggested papers for this session are:

Journal club: Cosmic strings and detection pipelines 45m

Cosmic Strings (CS) are a type of topological defects could be produced in the very early universe. They can make footprints on the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) and there are several methods, introduced by people, for detecting them. One of the policies of the detection is trying to detect them in real space. In the last results of Planck mission they used three methods to test probable Non-Gaussianities produced by CS. Bispectrum could set this upper limit G μ < 8.8 × 10^(−7), Wavelet could set this upper limit G μ < 7 × 10(−7) and Minkowski functionals could set this upper limit G μ < 7.8 × 10^(−7) (all for 95% confidence level). (https://doi.org/10.1051/0004-6361/201321621). Also based on other experiments people have simulated CS and tried to test different methods for detection. (arXiv:1611.10347, arXiv:1608.00004)
In this talk I'll give a brief introduction to Cosmic strings, observational effects and real space detection techniques. Also I'll talk about one of my works based on two of recent works on this subject.
