How to reach the Workshop?

Below you will find information on how to reach Erlangen and the workshop auditorium. Please contact us if you have problems concerning the organisation of your journey - e.g. for a letter of invitation for visa.

How to reach Erlangen?

Arrival by train

Information about train connections can be found on the pages of the Deutsche Bahn. The train station in Erlangen is within walking distance of most of the hotels. Bus schedules are available online on the pages of the local public transport (Verkehrsverbund Großraum Nürnberg, VGN).


Arrival by plane

Information about flight connections can be found on the pages of the Airport Nürnberg. Upon arrival, there are two possibilities to get to Erlangen:
  • By Taxi: The fare will be around 30 €, the time of travel around 30 minutes. Advise 'Erlangen, Hörsaalgebäude Physik, Staudstr. 5' (or your respective hotel) as your destination.
  • By public transport: There are a number of connections, all requiring at least one change. Details can be found on the pages of the VGN. Use "from: Nürnberg, Flughafen" as departure location and "to: Erlangen, Sebaldussiedlung" (for the workshop) or "to: Erlangen, Hauptbahnhof" (downtown) as arrival location. The riding time will be roughly one hour, additionally there will be a walk of a few minutes. A single fare will be around 4 € (price category 4).

Arrival by car

Located at intersection of highways A3 and A73, Erlangen is easily reachable by car (directions to workshop auditorium by maps.google.com). Parking situation downtown is problematic, check with your hotel about parking possibilities before arrival. There are car parks near the workshop auditorium (cf. the workshop google-map).


How to reach the Auditorium?

The workshop will take place in the lecture building of the Physics Department:

The lecture hall can be reached from downtown Erlangen by bus (lines 287 and 293, bus stop: "Sebaldussiedlung"), by car (car parks are marked in the google-map below) and by foot (ca. 45min). 

Detail bus schedules can be found on the pages of the VGN (Verkehrsverbund Großraum Nürnberg). Use "to: Erlangen, Sebaldussiedlung" as arrival location.

Information on Buses
  • Tickets: within Erlangen the price category for public transport is "K". There are single tickets (1.60 €) to be bought directly from the bus driver and a carnet of 5 tickets (6.80 €) to be bought at ticket machines at most bus stops ("5er Streifenkarte (Kurzstrecke)"). If using the carnet you have to stamp one bar per ride.
