Arrival procedures

 If you want to enter the CERN site before the registration which will be held on Monday 30 August 2010 from 10:00 to 12:00, you will be requested to show  the CERN security guard page 1 of the document entitled "Flash Info" (sent to you by e-mail on 19th of  August  2010).

Badges will be given at the registration desk and will serve as access cards during the workshop.

Registration desk

 The registration will take place at the Globe which is located in front of the reception (building 33) on the other side of the road. Workshop registration desk will be open on Monday 30 August from 10:00 to 12:00.

Participants who are unable to register during this time should contact Géraldine JEAN (Geraldine.Jean@cern.ch).

Laptop registration

If you intend to use your portable computer during your stay at CERN, before you can get access to the CERN network, you need to fill out a form. As the requests have to be approved, it is advised to fill ît out before coming to CERN.

Meals

The nearest CERN restaurant is the restaurant 1 NOVAE, located in Bldg. 501 (Meyrin).

Social events

• A cocktail wil be held on Monday 30 August at the Globe at 18:30.
• A guided  visit of the CERN facilities will take place on Wednesday 1 September from 9:00 to 11:00. The meeting point is: Reception, building 33 at 8:50.
• A workshop dinner will be held on Wednesday 1 September at 19:30 in Restaurant 1 NOVAE, building 501, Meyrin.

Language

The workshop language is English.

Currency

The official currency in Switzerland is the Swiss Franc (CHF).

Exchange facilities are available at the airport and at the branches of banks. Please note that the UBS bank is located in the CERN site.

Insurance

In accordance with the CERN Staff Rules and Regulations, your social insurance cover is the responsibility of your employer or of the educational institution at which you are normally enrolled.

If you do not have this kind of insurance covering you in both Switzerland and France, you are under the strict obligation to take the necessary measures to safeguard yourself against the economic consequences of illness, accidents and disability throughout your stay at CERN.

Visa

Given that the Organization is located on the border between France and Switzerland, we strongly recommend that you contact the relevant consulates for information on the entry conditions applicable to you in these two countries.
