THz discussion:

Mai measured the THz output from the Hot wire lamp and the Hg, Cd and Na Discharge lamps. The Wire lamp produced the most amount of power closely followed by the Hg lamp. Not much was seen from the Cd and Na lamps. It is likely that THz light is reduced through the glass container of the discharge tubes.

The simulation using layers of PE foil show a marked discrepancy compared with experiment, it is likely that we have transmission of some IR light through the PE film. JF will look for transmission curves extending beyond 3THz.

Using copper pipes as a waveguide was working well with good transmission of THz light at distances of up to 60cm from the light source.

JF suggested that we use a Teflon film in front of the PE foil to prevent the PE from melting.

JF will look for transmission curves extending beyond 3THz for both PE and teflon.

Rydberg exitation:

The laser was realigned and the Ti:Sa cristal was adjused, there is not a significant enhancement of the laser output compared to before (see attached PPT). The spikes are now filtered from the locking signal using a MOSFET.

The laser was aligned to cross paths with the H beam after the C foil inside the chamber. A time dependent signal was searched for with respect to the QS trigger using a continous proton beam. There was a large background and the DAQ crashed multiple times at higher applied bias on the proton source.

The pulser was used to generate proton bunches, these bunches were then overlapped with the laser pulse signal using the oscilloscope. No Rydberg signal was observed so far.
