A DITANET Topical Workshop on “High Intensity Proton Beam Diagnostics” will be organized by CEA Saclay, on September 26th and 27th of 2011. The workshop will take place in Kyriad hotel of Massy-Palaiseau, located at 82 place de France, 12 kilometers south of Paris.
Most high intensity proton beam facilities over the world are in different project phases: operation (SNS), commissioning (Linac4), design (eg Spiral2, FAIR, IFMIF-EVEDA, ESS...) and prospective (eg MYRRHA). They cover a large range of physics from fundamental nuclear physics to fusion and nuclear waste transmutation. Their diagnostics needs are specific but they all have to cope with high beam power imposing peculiar care for non-interceptive ones. Several challenges have to be faced in such facilities due to:

High beam power: Machine protection system, emittance measurement...
Space charge: transverse profile and emittance measurement...
Low β beams: Beam position and bunch length monitors, beam current transformers...
Background: radiation-hard materials, electronics...

During this workshop, all aspects of diagnostics designed for high intensity proton accelerators will be discussed.
During the first day, diagnostics of the accelerators will be presented with particular emphasis on the challenges, followed by open discussions. On the second day, DITANET trainees will open the first session presenting their research work progress, followed by a tutorial session on 'hot topics' before a final round table discussion.
