Description
The aim of re3data.org is to create a webbased registry of research data repositories. The re3data.org
registry index data repositories to provide an overview on existing research data collections. In March 2013,
343 research data repositories were indexed in re3data.org. 188 of them are described using a
comprehensive vocabulary (Vierkant et al., 2012).
The re3data.org registry makes it possible to identify a certified research data repository which allows for instance the storage of geoscience data under a Creative Commons license. Furthermore a system of icons has been developed to show crucial characteristics of a repository. The icon system helps users to identify a suitable repository for the storage of their data. In re3data.org researchers can clearly see the terms of access and use of each repository. re3data.org is a joint project of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) and the Berlin School of Library and Information Science at the HumboldtUniversität zu Berlin.
Funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) re3data.org cooperates with The German
Initiative for Network Information (DINI).
The poster gives an overview of the project and current features of re3data.org
