Description
At the TOTEM Experiment, very forward charged particles from pp scattering at IP5 in the LHC are detected with silicon sensors housed in Roman Pots and presently operating down to 3mm from the centre of the beam. In this talk, I will present the conception, the construction, the commissioning and the operation of the Roman Pot Detector System in TOTEM. Particular emphasis will be given to the reduction down to 50m of the insensitive edge in these silicon microstrip sensors. Finally, I will give an overview on new developments aiming at radiation harder edgeless Si sensors for later high intensity LHC runs.
