Description

Abstract:

This third lecture of the series will explore the future of Higgs measurements at the LHC, during the third Run of the LHC -about to start- and in the High Luminosity phase. The large datasets of pp collisions to be collected, 3000 fb-1 at 14 TeV by the end of the HL-LHC, will fundamentally improve our understanding of the nature of the Higgs boson. I will focus on future precision measurements of the Higgs boson, including inclusive and differential cross-sections, branching ratios, couplings to standard model particles, and, of course, the self-coupling. I will finish by discussing the role of the Higgs boson in searches for physics beyond the standard model.

Short bio:

María Cepeda has been a member of the CMS collaboration since 2007. After obtaining a PhD from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and the Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Mediombientales y Tecnológicas (CIEMAT) in 2011, she joined first the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a postdoctoral researcher (2011-2015) and then CERN with a MarieCurie COFUND Fellow (2015-2018). She returned to CIEMAT as a Ramon y Cajal researcher in 2019.  Her work for CMS has focused on Standard Model and Higgs measurements, and on BSM Higgs searches, especially for exotic Higgs decays. She is also contributor to the operation and upgrade of the L1 Trigger system.  She participated in the renewal of the European Strategy for Particle Physics as one of the editors of the CERN report on Higgs Physics at the HL-LHC and HE-LHC. She convened the CMS Higgs studies group from 2019 to 2021.
