Description

Abstract:

 

We will review and discuss the status and challenges of Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT)  interpretations of LHC data in the top quark sector. After motivating and introducing the SMEFT and its application to top quark physics at hadron colliders we will highlight some key aspects of experimental and theoretical efforts in maximising new physics reach using top quark data, its importance in the global context and discuss some avenues for improving  our sensitivity in the future.   

 

Kirill - Short bio:

Kirill Skovpen has obtained his PhD with the ATLAS experiment, and since then he has been a member of the CMS Collaboration. His main research interests include the studies of various processes with top quarks as well as the top-Higgs interplay with an application of the SM Effective Field Theory.

Ken - Short bio:

Ken obtained his PhD at the University of Southampton and held a postdoctoral position at the University of Sussex, a Marie Curie Individual Fellowship at UCLouvain and is currently a postdoctoral research associate at King’s College London. His primary research interests lie in collider phenomenology beyond the Standard Model, using the vast High Energy Physics dataset to understand the nature of Electroweak symmetry breaking and possible connections between the Electroweak sector and yet undiscovered, fundamental particles. These include a broad programme of research in the Standard Model Effective Field Theory, as well as various explicit models such as extended Higgs sectors and axion-like particles.
He is currently a theory convener for the LHC Higgs Working Group 2 “Higgs properties” and will begin a convenership of the LHC EFT Working Group later this term.
