Description
The usual way to determine the nature of the new discovered resonance is to measure his couplings to Standard Model particles by fitting the signal strength in different decay and production channels. But the information available in LHC data is much larger! A detailed shape analysis of the kinematic distributions of the new boson decay may indeed allow to extract the couplings and tensor structure of its production and decay amplitude. The main ingredients needed for this measurement are a complete modeling of the decay distributions (a.k.a. MELA) and a Monte Carlo generator able to produce any spin/parity hypothesis for the new resonance (JHUGen MC). Expectation for spin/parity measurement, using this method, will be shown, combining ZZ, WW and gamma-gamma final states, as well as first results of parity analysis from in CMS data (12.2 fb-1). After a small digression about similar analyses performed in a model-dependent framework, high luminosity projection for the characterization of the new boson will be discussed. Trying to answer to the fatal question: when we will be able to say if the new discovered state is the SM Higgs?
