Getting to Montpellier
by Plane Regular Flights Getting to Montpellier airport (MPL) for a reasonable fare usually involves flying with Air France or an affiliated airline (KLM / SkyTeam), via Paris (or sometimes Lyon). Air France operates 4 flights per day to Montpellier from Paris Charles-de-Gaulle airport (CDG), and 6-8 flights per day from Paris Orly airport (ORY). If a change of airport in Paris is necessary, it can be done by bus (cars Air France line 3; 19 euros, every half-hour, ~1 hour duration, subject to traffic) or rail (RER B to Antony, then OrlyVAL; 8 per hour, ~1h20 duration). Low-cost airlines Ryanair flies direct to Montpellier from Frankfurt-Hahn. It also operates direct flights from Brussels-Charleroi, Leeds and Birmingham. Plane + Train There are 5 conveniently direct TGV trains per day connecting Paris Charles-de-Gaulle airport with Montpellier (in 4 hours). Additional connections are available by transferring to Paris Gare-de-Lyon train station (e.g. by RER B to Chatelet, then RER A or line 14, which takes 45-50 minutes); travel time from Gare de Lyon to Montpellier is ~3h20. Lyon Saint-Exupery airport (LYS) is well-connected by rail shuttle (Rhonexpress; 4 per hour, 30 minutes duration) to Lyon Part-Dieu train station, from which there are frequent TGV trains to Montpellier (12 per day, ~1h50 travel time). Marseille Provence airport (MRS) has train connections to Montpellier in less than 2 hours via the nearby "Vitrolles Aeroport" train station, although these are not very frequent. Further train options are available by first transferring to the central Marseille Saint-Charles train station (e.g. by bus, 8.5 euros, 25 minutes, every 20 minutes). From there, ~16 trains per day reach Montpellier, mostly in less than 2 hours. Toulouse Blagnac airport (TLS) is connected by bus shuttle (5 euros, ~20 minutes subject to traffic, every 20 minutes) to the central Toulouse Matabiau train station, from which there are ~12 trains per day taking about 2 hours to Montpellier. by Train There are 12 direct TGV trains per day from Paris to Montpellier (~3h20 travel time), departing from Gare-de-Lyon train station. If you arrive by train in Paris, do allow enough time for the change of train station. Schedules, availability and prices can be obtained from the SNCF Web site (in French, or note language flags in bottom right), although this can be a bit slow. Arrival in Montpellier From Montpellier airport, the easiest and fastest option is to take a taxi (~30 euros, ~20 minutes depending on the exact destination). There is also a shuttle which takes you (in 15 minutes) to the "Place de l'Europe" tram stop, from which you can continue by tram. All trains to Montpellier arrive at the central (Montpellier Saint-Roch) train station, which is within walking distance of the city center and served by all tram lines. Public transport From the TAM Web site (in French) you can download a complete map of public transports in Montpellier. Directions to the meeting venue The meeting is hosted at CNRS regional headquarters, which are located in the Route de Mende campus, near the Montpellier University and the Paul-Valery Monpellier 3 University. To get to the CNRS headquarters, you will have to take tram line 1, which runs every ~5 minutes during the day, plus a bus. Tickets must be bought before you board the tram and they are valid also for the bus; vending machines at all tram stops accept coins, and bank cards compatible with the French chip system. From the downtown, you should take tram line 1 in the direction "Mosson", and get off at the stop "Saint-Eloi". Then for the bus you have 2 possibilities: • Solution 1: take the bus N°22, DIRECTION « CLAPIERS / JACOU » (every ~30 minutes) and get off at the « CNRS » stop, just in front of the CNRS headquarters main entrance. • Solution 2: take the bus « LA NAVETTE », DIRECTION « AGROPOLIS VIA VERT-BOIS » (every ~10 minutes) and get off at the « VERT-BOIS » stop. Walk about 400 meters in the upstream direction on the Route de Mende to reach the CNRS headquarters main entrance. The meeting will be held on Monday and Wednesday in the "Salle des Colloques", while on Tuesday in the "Amphithéâtre", both rooms are near the main entrance.
