XENON1T and its excess of electronic recoil events

by Sebastian Lindemann

Europe/Vienna
Description

Seminar by S. Lindemann (Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg)

XENON1T, today's most sensitive dark matter detector, observed an excess of low energy (2-5 keV) electronic recoil events. I will discuss new physics explanations, namely axions produced in the sun, a nonzero neutrino magnetic moment and absorption of bosonic dark matter, but also the more mundane interpretation of the excess events by traces of tritium. I will conclude with an outlook on XENONnT, the successor experiment currently under commissioning at LNGS, that will discriminate new physics from tritium with a few months of data.
