The CERN Accelerator School is organizing a “Mini-CAS”course on:

Mechanical and Materials Engineering for Accelerators

entirely based on video presentations on consecutive Friday afternoons.

Due to the present COVID19-pandemic and for the first time in the history of the CERN Accelerator School, a course foreseen as full two weeks residential course had to be postponed to a date to be defined.

To give a representative flavor of the foreseen course programme, eight courses have been selected to be organized as a sequence of video tutorials: this “mini-CAS course” is not designed to be fully comprehensive, but with the objective to show some sample topics.

After the success of the first series, another five lectures based on the interest of the students have been added.

The tutorials will be given online weekly on Friday afternoons (15h Geneva time) starting on 6 November 2020 to 9 April 2021. Registered students will be able to ask questions.

A video recording of these lectures will be made available on the CAS website in the following week.

The focus of the course will be to orient mechanical engineers from their general knowledge obtained during their past education to techniques and solutions that are specific for accelerator applications.

The remote participation in the lectures is by invitation only. For this, registration is mandatory and without any fee.

Only registered students will receive the video link to connect to all courses.

Registration will be handled as usual through an Indico site; registration deadline is February 25th.

This invitation is only communicated to students who had previously registered in the two rounds for the full course on Mechanical and Materials Engineering, partly to limit the number of people in the Q&A part of the event, but partly also to thank them for their interest in CAS. Nothing will stop them to forward this information to friends, who then can also register. We will have to limit the number of “online-students” to a reasonable number; so first come, first served!
