2. Discussion of the agenda/program

Agreement on postponing agenda item 3 to 5 to after item 8, in order to have time available to prepare for meeting with CERN CTF3 management.

3. Approval of minutes from last meeting

There were some mistakes in the description of the funding details for the Finnish program.  The minutes have been updated accordingly.

4. Application from Aarhus University to join NorduCLIC

There was already agreement in an earlier NorduCLIC-meeting to start discussions with Aarhus w/ Uggerhøj.  TE: Now there was an urgency due to TIARA activites.  The Nordic countries is a consortium in TIARA, and allowing Aarhus to join would make the TIARA consortium equal to the NorduCLIC consortium.  Uggerhøj's group was approached because they are already part of the CLIC/CTF3 collaboration with beam-beam effects as the main activity.

Comments from VZ, EA and others: we should first ask the Aarhus accelerator group (w/ Pape Moeller) about possible contributions, and invite them to join the collaboration at the same time as Uggerhøj's group.  It was also pointed out that Uggerhøj's activites were not linked very well with the NorduCLIC core program.

Conclusions: we postpone the Aarhus application until TE has also discussed the matter also with the group of Pape Moeller.

5. Modification of NorduCLIC statutes

Eventual modifications are postponed to a future meeting, in light of the postponement of the processing of the Aarhus application.

6. Tour de table of the three groups with reports on progress since last meeting

Finland:

Not much progress.  Still looking for a good candidate Ph.D. student.  Industrial involvement: will start September 1, 2010, and go on for 4 years  (4 person one year at CERN + technical coord. (2 years) + post.doc. (2 years) working on break down activities.

Norway:

Details of the rf design part of NorduCLIC have been investigated through discussions with

Funding for one PhD student has been secured where CERN contributes 50% for the first two year.  The external funding was necessary in order to bridge into the new Norwegian long-term CERN budget period (ca. 2012-2018) where new money for NorduCLIC activites is expected.

Sweden:

Submitted proposal for 3 years running budget for TBTS.

A detailed experimental program for the TBTS has been made.

Deadline for post.doc. application end of July, already many applications.

TBTS: should request to keep the current TBTS set-up (phase 2) up to the end 2012.

ESS: secured 14 of 20 million Euro, hope to get the remaining from the Wallenberg foundation.

12TS: set-up ready by about summer 2011.

7. Discussions with CERN CTF3 management

Present from CLIC;

G. Geschoenke, W. Wuensch, K. Schirm, S. Doebert

    a. Our program of measurements and associated computer simulations we want to carry out with the TBTS, including the flash box, during 2010 and 2011

SD: short winter shut-down, then possibly a shut-down around the summer.

GG: operation, must ensure that we have sufficient personnel to operate the TBTS, including Calife.  KS: W. Farabolini will most probably leave August 2011.

Schedule: SD and WW: supports the NorduCLIC point of view, but says the schedule must be sorted out in different fora.

    b. The instrumentation we intend to build up for the 12 GHz Stand Alone Test Stand and our program of measurements, and associated computer simulations, with that Test Stand

VZ:

Planned to have candidate for 12TS instrumentation within 1-2 months.

Need to get drawings from CERN for structure test vacuum tank, in order to decide on instrument mounting.   Space available on each side: several meters.  VZ: should be enough.  Discussion on the different components going in (two magnetic spectrometers, one electrostatic) -> agree that in principle all should fit in the room.

WW: ACE3P can simulate dark current spectrum emitted -> synergy rf simulation work and 12TS experimental work (spectrometer measurements).

    c. Our plans for the transfer of the current accelerating structure design calculations to the code suit ACE3P, starting by reproducing the current structure design and then studying some specific modifications to this design with the aim to further improve the design in a longer term perspective.

WW: cross-talk: really the HOM behavior of the coupled system that will be studied.  EA: will link nicely with on-going simulation work.

8. Discussion of the outcome of the meeting with the CERN CTF3 management.

It was agreed that the outcome of the meeting with the CERN CTF3 management was positive; CERN seemed to welcome and strongly support all items presented (a, b and c).

9. Conclusions regarding the NorduCLIC program

By the end of next week the different NorduCLIC partners should provide a summary of the discussed contributions to the program, which will be put on web.

Next meeting: 31 August 10-12 hrs.
