Speaker: Aleksei Dziuba (PNPI)

Reply to SPS referees:

Jan:
 - The questions from SPS arrived on Monday evening.
 - See attached documents.
 - To address them we had a meeting yesterday in a short group: Jan, Stefano, Eugeny ...
 - Our reply is the head of the attached documents

ALPIDEs

Oleg Kisilev (OK):
 - ALPIDEs, which are in GSI, belong to ALICE. They can't be moved into CERN / Freiburg / ... until the license will be granted to GSI / AMBER.
 - ALICE people from GSI can promise nothing without a license agreement.

Jan: is it possible to use ALPIDEs outside ALICE?

Maxim:
 - Licence is experimental bound. Nothing can be published without license.
 - Question to OK: does GSI have a licence?

OK: ALICE-GSI group can use it as a part of ALICE, but they see no way to send it to CERN or to Frieburg.

Maxim: Maybe ALICE-ITS-group would be interested to participate in the pilot run, as for them it will be a good test at high intensity beam?

AD: License to be in June?

Maxim: That was a previous agreement. There is no update so far about this/

Jan: Can we write a letter to them? How could we be more efficient and not to wait two additional months?

Stefano (S):Magnus is a responsible person from the ALICE side. I don't think there is a problem with ALICE, but with the company itself.

OK: That's exactly that Magnus told me.

S: 21st of April Magnus will be back onside. I can discuss this issue with him in detail.

Maxim:
 - Details are important. I assume that minor tests can be done before June, but nothing can be published.
 - AFAIK, Freiburg had an idea to make some tests to understand a redout from ALPIDEs.

OK: It's forbidden to send carrier boards from GSI to Frieburg.

Maxim: Maybe Freiburg people can come to GSI or to CERN to take such a test in ALICE's lab?

OK: Next week these ALICE-GSI stations will be sent to DESY for a beam test, but after they'll be back such a test can be possible, if the Frieburg people will come to GSI.

Oleg Denisov (OD):What is this company? How much are they bound by CERN?

Maxim: Not much bound. The problem is that the company should ask the Ministry of foregn affairs for permission. This is where a final decision will be made.

OK: ALICE has a large purchase for these sensors.

OD: If CERN is a valuable partner for them, we can try to go through the CERN directorate. I can talk with some related person about this issue.

S: First, I have to talk with Magnus.

TPC preparation

Eugeny:
 - We have all elements for inner structure.
 - Good to have 1st pressure test at the end of April
 - PNPI mechanics (A.Granik) polished endcups and prepared a support for endcup's mounting.
 - Waiting for the valve and adopters
 - In May Granik will start to mount the inner structure.

OK:
 - Valve is not yet in GSI.
 - It was promised this week, but the week is not yet over.
 - If valves will not be in GSI tomorrow I will contact the company
 - Adopters (valve-IKAR and valve-TurboPump) should be ready tomorrow.
 - When all part are in my hand I'll check them, connect and send to CERN

Electric field uniformity in TPC

OK:
 - There are ANSIS calculations done in GSI.
 - There are some disagreement
 - They are more optimistic wrt COMSOL (done in PNPI)
 - May be some field optimisation is needed: resistors, spacing between shaping rings

Aleksei Dziuba (AD): AFAIK these resistors are rather expansive

Eugeny: We have now resistors with 2% accuracy, more precise will be very expensive.

AD: Maybe it's worth measuring it and optimizing the position of shaping rings according to it?

Eugeny: Metrology is not easy as they are GOm at high voltage. Some external measurements should be done.

Alexey Vorobyov (AAV):
 - I propose to discuss it in a smaller group of experts
 - Anyway, first, the source of ANSIS-COMSOL difference must be understood.

OK: Agree.

Gas system

Eugeny:
 - There is a proposal from Alexander Vassiliev to use PSI cryogenic recirculation system for the pilot run
 - Experiment in PSI in August till 9th of September
 - Two weeks for dismounting - transportation - mounting
 - Can be ready end of September
 - Pilot run days is a crucial parameter.

OK: Decision about allocation is expected within a week

AAV:
 - Cryogenic gas recirculation system is very attractive
 - Mechanical system should be checked regularly and has an issue with CERN safety (the foreseen pump seems to be forbidden to use in CERN)
 - Cryogenic one can be a bit expensive (for the main run), but the solution for the pilot exists and requires not much money.
 - Cryogenic is more stable in maintenance.

S:
 - The proposal to use PSI one for the pilot run is very attractive
 - Flow is enough for the pilot run
 - It will allow for spare money
 - Safety issues should be discussed with CERN officers well in advance.
 - Waiting for the information about the PSI system from Alexander Vassiliev.

OD: What additional investment you need?

S: Few-k only to bring it from PSI to CERN (and back).

OD: That's cost efficient.

S: This is a golden solution for the pilot run to my mind.

AAV:
 - It requires a larger amount of gas
 - For the Mainz experiment a mechanical solution was foreseen , but we are thinking to change it to a cryo one.

S;
 - Still have to be decided what should we use for the main run
 - I have a proposed solution by company to build mechanical system for 28k
 - The crucial point is that that membrane should be replaced each 1500 hours
 - The solution with two pumps not to stop working

OD: Seems, this is a kind of luxury solution

S:
 - Not really. You have to double engines but not a full system.
 - 35k cost is expected, so it isn't a factor 2 in price.

MoU

AAV: MoU is a crucial point for us. How it's developing

AD:
 - Tomorrow will be the first meeting of the drafting group.
 - I, as  well as some other members will participate
 - We can report how it's going (in PNPI / in PRM group).

Eva:
 - The communication should go via AMBER Collaboration board.
 - Drafting committee should report at the next CB meeting.
