Financial situation

Oleg Denisov (OD): Does budget for SciFis confirmed by BMBF?
Jan F.:
 - There is no official news, but controversial rumors about AMBER funding by BMBF.
 - A good news is that in Munich we had a call for money, which was not spent.
 - We fastly prepared an application for SciFis and mechanics for common stations
 - This application was approved  / 280k EUR
 - These are only investment money (no PhD /PostDoc position can be funded using them).
 - This is a small amount in the context of a BMBF application, which is of the order of millions EUR.

OD:
 - It's good in the context that in 10 days we will have an INFN meeting about the budgeting process.
 - Any positive news from outside would help
 - Any news from PNPI?

Aleksei Dziuba (AD):
 - There are non official approval by PNPI director of the funding for next 2 years
 - To be confirmed
 - I will contact OD 11th of May, when likely I will have more precise information.

Oleg Kiselev (OK): When is the official report from BMBF expected to come?

Jan:
 - Bernard tried to setup a contact with BMBF officials to clarify situation
 - Stephan Paul has an info that this attempt was not successful

OK:
 - AFAIK an issue is that the requested funding in total is factor 3 larger wrt approved budget.

Jan:
 - That's true
 - We could be asked to reduce our requested
 - An opinion of Stephan Paul that 1/3 can be worse than rejection for this year, as laws don't allow double funding in Germany
 - We expect a decision mid- or end-of-May. Last date is the end of June, as the financial year will start 1st of July and people who are in positions funded by this money have to know about their future.

OK: This means that financing of the TPC main body production can be in trouble.

Minitutorial for AMBER software

Christian:
 - I've got an email with an announcement of Mini-tutorial for AMBER software
 - I'll forward it to a prm-mailing-list
 - Next Tuesday, 11th of May, 16:30 -- 18:30 CET
 - Scope: how to setup software?

14:15 → 14:35  Possible "physics" trigger for the Pilot Run
Speakers: Christian Dreisbach (Technische Universitaet Muenchen (DE)) , Jan Friedrich (Technische Universitaet Muenchen (DE))

AD: What is a time scale to prepare such scintillators?
Moritz: Few weeks. All materials (including PMTs) are available.

AD: What will be an efficiency for muons going through the corner (2nd drawing)
Moritz:
 - Obviously not 100% as there could be some light losses.
 - But same problem will be indeed for the option 1

Fulvio: Acrylic glass (drawing 1) can also give a signal (Cherenkov radiation). We saw it in the past.

Christian: Simulation requires a new beamfile, which is already requested.
AD: Please distribute it among us.
Christian: Of course.
Moritz: Note, the beam will be inclined as in a CEDAR position it is coming from underground.
Jan: The main property we need to have a straight beam and this is fine at the CEDAR location.
