Signatures of light inelastic dark matter

Inelastic dark matter models can produce unique experimental signatures that distinguish it from elastic dark matter. In this talk I will discuss our recent work extending the formalism of the Migdal effect and cosmic-ray upscattering to inelastic dark matter. For elastic scattering both of these detection modes extend the sensitivity of direct detection experiments to very low dark matter masses. For inelastic dark matter models the sensitivity of these channels diverges. For example, cosmic-ray upscattering can give experiments access to much larger mass-splittings, while the Migdal effect becomes insensitive to such models.
